Its college football. I used to love it. I would watch all day saturday pull for teams i liked or against those i hated.
Then it dwindled down to just watching every Clemson game... then to only the bigger games.
On August 31st, i will be working on and setting up a property. I will not have power or internet there. I will not be able to watch the game and my disappointment level is minimal. Sure, when i get home, i will check who won... but i dont overly even care that i am missing it.
RIP the college football that i loved.

The 31 is not indicative of our defense... other than their stamina. Because who woukd rely on their defense being on the field 70% of the time.

As the costs go up, the enjoyment goes down. Just a general principle with many things. I'm in it for the kids quite frankly. I grew up going to games and loved it, and so do they. But I'm sitting here looking around and this isn't the 1980's Clemson football I grew up watching as a kid. Not the same fans, stadium, experience. Campus is different. Heck, the students are different. But if the boys like it, I'm paying.
I still think there's "Something in these hills". I know I understand that "something". I hope it remains.

The price point is the big sticking issue. I'm not paying $300 a seat

for 4 people plus an extra $200 for a parking pass that gets me within 5 miles of the stadium.
Then drive 4.5 hours to get there. Spend $100 on food. Get a $200/night hotel room to drive 4.5 hours back.
I'll just watch it on TV with $15 for a 32 pack beer.

I'll admit, we're lucky. My mother lives at my address according to IPTAY.

She has my email address too.
We have 450+ IPTAY points, seats on the 15 in the lower deck, park on Shotgun Alley in the shade, etc. Can't beat the setup. And even with this, $5K gets you season tix and this parking space, with those points. We usually sell tix for a couple of games and make perhaps $1-2K of that back. We have 4 tickets, now 5.
There will be a reckoning I fear at some point in the future.
When I was a kid my grandparents lived in Anderson near the airport. We'd go up Friday night, wake up Saturday AM, go to Po Folks and get some fried chicken. Parked in Lot 5. Tailgate was a cooler, some card table chairs, card table, picnic basket, and Po Folks. No tent. no TV. No Generator. Threw football in the parking lot, and slid down the grassy hill on cardboard boxes, before Clemson ruined that recently.
Took us 20 minutes to get to our space using my grandfather's secret back road route. GPS/Google has blown the doors off that. Can take longer now depending on the game.
Anyway, I'm more torn than I'd like to be about it.

Maybe if lilkrzy starts liking it I'll get re-energized, for now I'll just watch the games from the house. College football has been tainted the past few years with corporate level money.

My oldest son had a blast at his first game last year. I hope we make it to 1-2 every year.
As crazy as it is to say, Clemson's game day experience is much more family/kid friendly than other major schools are.

interest.
I have no desire to watch a football game.
Maybe that desire will come back.
But probably not.
If I go to a game now it's to give my kids that experience.

Sadly, could have been prevented with a minor league NFL system for HS kids.

Dabo and what he stands for. I think he brings in some good kids. I can support a little while longer. Hopefully long enough to where they can fix some of this stuff they just broked.

is Dabo is still, somewhat, bringing in some big name assistant coaches. hot names, good resumes, guys sticking around....
should give some hope that there's a faction of coaches and administrators out there who are aligned with his thoughts, or else they'd go somewhere else, right?
or maybe I'm being to optimistic w/ orange tinted daboshades.
also note we still have TGrish, Hart and Robertson (I think is his name, not looking it up) on staff, so there's obviously some caveats.

was literally just talking to my dad about it.
basically when dabo goes, I'm out. as much sheet as I give him, still gotta tip your hat to him trying to do it the traditional way. I'll support that.
I'm not supporting what it has become. Eff the media companies and the horse they rode in on. I hope the whole thing collapses.

I'd wager sooner than later. Whatever that private equity talk with the Big 12 is should really be terrifying to everyone. Also, ESPN stays in cost cutting mode so it sure does seem like these contracts aren't returning what they need.
If every school's big donors are getting hit harder than ever before, how long can it last with no real return on investment? Will these deep pocket guys settle for making the playoff every year or do they turn sour without national championships?

as when I first moved to Greenville, it is more like when I was working most Saturday's and couldn't watch that much.
For the past 2 years and bleeding into this year, people keep planning #### for me to do during football season. If all goes to plan, next year I will have one of the bad boys below and have a tv set up at the beer festivals. At least I think that will do what I want.

I still feel the excitement building this time of year, and I still plan my weekends this time of year, as much as possible, around the games. I still follow recruitment pretty closely. Butt - I don't like the way the game is changing and becoming primarily a minor professional league where education (and true connection to the school) is playing a smaller and smaller role.
I grew up loving it because my father attended Clemson when Banks McFadden was a star, and grew up on stories about Fred Cone and having Jimmy Addison and Buddy Gore as my earliest heroes. MY enthusiasm was not diminished one iota through the awful Hootie Ingram years. Now that I'm officially an old fart, starting medicare next month, yes, priorities and perspectives on many things have changed. Still, I get the familiar butterflies and excitement this time of year, even if it is a little different. I believe that at some point, Clemson and all schools, will simply have what amount to corporate sponsered pro teams which act as a minor league for the NFL, where the only connecttion the players will have to their schools will be their jerseys and helmets.
At this point, I am still very excited to get this season rolling. Yet, I'm very apprehensive about the changes that are coming.

If it does go to private equity, the game we have known and loved is over. And what people don't understand is that the quality of the game will decline as well. For a primer on this, watch the translation of Uruguay's soccer coach's speech about the modern game during the Copa America. Of course it is not the portal and NIL, but he's talking about the money and the TV highlights viewers of soccer and how that has diluted the quality of the game. The same will happen with NIL and the portal.
Also, I don't like Dabo's stubborn refusal to use the portal. The NIL thing I get (our stance will hurt us, but I get it and do not object to Clemson's position on principle) but the portal could help us so much and there's no excuse not to use it.
But all that said, I still get excited about Clemson football. Not the football itself so much, but this time of year and looking forward to going down to Clemson for a game. I really miss it if I can't get to a game during any given season. I missed going last season and plan to be there for a game this year.
