For sure, bowl season 2023 has been pretty pathetic and the disinterest is palpable. Opt outs, low attendance, low viewer ratings, etc. the thing is, the fix has already been put in place with a 12 team playoff coming next year.
Ole miss vs. Penn State would have been a playoff game and would have been great.
Mizz vs Ohio state would have been a playoff game and would have been great.
FSU vs. UGA would have been a playoff game and would have been completely different.
Moral of the story is, this year sucked but let’s stop complaining as the fix has already been put in place and next year will be amazing. Capitalism will run its course on all the non playoff bowls and we’ll see a major contraction on the number of bowl games within a few years. Happy new years and GO TIGERS!

You're probably right. But that means we would have been sitting at home with no post season the last 2 of the last 3 years, and the one we'd have made in 22 would have been embarrassing because we'd be playing a top team. If that had been the case, then Dabo would have needed much thicker skin because he'd be hearing it from a lot of Tyler's with deep pockets. Would you agree with that?

Recalibrate Expectations!

To me, the bowl season is "CFB preseason"!
It gives you a preview of what your team will look like "next year" more than anything!
Kentucky has zero opt-outs including their RB who will get drafted - Davis.
The young - very young Tigers showed their inexperience several times during the game Friday. But, they also showed a hail of a lot of potential too! Learning under fire is great and a bowl game allows teams to "practice football" more.
I hope you are wrong about capitalism taking out bowl games in short. Because, without them, it gives you less opportunity to play a game against other teams who want to win. I.E. since there is no preseason in college football - the bowl games are a great reward for teams who qualify to be in them.
Jacksonville from what I can tell did pretty well in terms of commerce from visiting Wildcats and Tigers fans.
So, hope Bowl season lives on. I think people need to recalibrate what they mean though.

Crazy idea here but what if instead of preseason bowls, each team was allowed a scrimmage against another team at any venue they wanted? You could play said scrimmage at any time during fall camp.

I’m ok with all those scenarios as that’s what already plays out in every other sports playoff. Some stay home, some get beat badly, some pull upsets, all understand what it takes to make the playoffs before the season starts.
The landscape of college football is changing dramatically and there’s nothing we can do as individuals to change that. The sooner we shift our mindset from “bowl” season to “playoff” season the better we’ll be as fans. That anger and frustration some are feeling is just the mourning of a thing that isn’t real anymore. Some see it, some don’t (not you in particular ClemGal).

Alot of great matchups on paper got ruined b/c players began opting out b/c of it being CFP or bust. & it's the NY6 games that seem to have been hurt the worst in the opt-out/TP era thats been running alongside the CFP.
The non-NY6 games, IMO, have been a better on-field product for the most part lately if you're willing to shed your school/conference tribalism. & have to credit certain games like Duke's Mayo, Cheez-It/PopTarts, Holiday, etc for doing some kind of gimmick to create some fun moments for fans to enjoy. Attendance I believe is gonna be hit or miss nowadays b/c the game is more of a TV product more than a live event product in the days before, but the right matchup is still gonna put butts in seats.
