Can some smart person figure stats

We all know Clemson pulls starters when they have a sizable lead. They get the younger guys playing time and I think over all it is good thing for the the team. It skews the stats though, and all the pundits are saying that Clemson is this and that but the stats don't match the Longhorns.
Would that not go both ways- Texas keeps it starters in and do nothing but pad their stats.

Thoughts-opinions?

it actually doesn't matter who is playing for Clemson 1st or 2nd or 3rd

the results are simply bad and the opponent puts up two scores.

Clemson gives up on average 14 points in the 4th quarter to ranked teams
Clemson gives up on average 9 point in the 4th quarter to unranked teams

In the 4th QTR, the D has given up 130 points....10 points per game. Not good...

14 vs UGA
21 vs UVA (I think that's right)
13 vs Pitt
10 vs SC
17 vs SMU

I feel like vs UGA, the team kind of gave up on D...which led to the points. Vs SC, dumb decisions by the DC....

Let's hope no one gives up and the DC makes better decisions.

Go Tigers!!!

Youre incorrect in your assumption

You can go grab playing time for every player in college football. Someone posted it here a while back. Almost all teams use their bench in mop up time. I’ll try to find that website. But the difference between bench time at Clemson and Texas was negligible.

I have often thought about doing this but the main issue is how to determine when there are enough non-starters out there to snap the line and say "this was against 2kd or 3rd stringers". Without having the granular detail of who was a starter vs backup for each game and the exact count of who was on the field for each play I doubt you'd ever get there.

We rotate a bunch, like most schools. Even when we have 8 or 9 backups in there we almost always have a couple starters out there to help

So as a proxy do you draw some line that says "up by 35 at half, 28 in the 3rd and 21 in the 4th" to determine when we say the scores were against starters or backups?

Not sure it matters. Or maybe I just don’t care enough to put that much thought into it. Hahaha!
