SCOTUS Says Sentence the DA

SCOTUS ruled 5-4 for NY to sentence serial felon Trump tomorrow.
With absolutely no legal or constitutional basis, four justices voted not to allow the sentencing. That's where we are now. Amy is going to need more security from the MAGA morons now.

The judge already said the sentence is an unconditional discharge, which was the only practical option. He could have sentenced him to imprisonment up to inauguration, but what would be the point?
Orange Jesus was focused on stopping the sentencing, so he could claim he wasn't "convicted." That is correct per NY law: you aren't a convicted felon until the trial is complete. Tomorrow, the trial will be complete.

The only practical consequence is Trump should probably turn in the Florida handgun. He turned in the NY handguns after the verdict. He can otherwise gift it to Melania or Barron (and probably should have done so with the NY handguns, but he has incompetent counsel).

Trumpers live vicariously through him, imagining they could also lie, cheat, steal, rape, and get away with it all. The Orange Jesus might get away with it, but all his closest “friends” pay the price (Epstein, Guiliani, Cohen). They all have to learn there’s nobody he will sell out to make a buck or stay out of prison.

We don't know the rationale of the 4 that voted not to allow the sentencing, but it's nice to know you are a legal and constitutional scholar.
The rationale of the 5 that voted to go ahead and allow the word sentence of convicted felon to be imposed, said such a nothing burger sentence would not impede the President-Elect's duties, so have at it.
This particular trial was total BS. When Trump ultimately successfully appeals this sentence, get back to us and praise the justice system.
Your team brought this on all of us. DeSantis and others had a decent chance for the nomination and I would have preferred any of them over Trump, but all the shenanigans brought to bear to try to take down Trump only strengthened him, so congratulations.

Not exactly. Ultimately GOP voters and voters in states where no party affiliation is required, voted to nominate Trump, but this focus on using the law and attempting to use election law to keep Trump out, sucked all the oxygen out of the primary, put Trump front and center and required the other candidates to spend their time defending Trump, so yes, that did contribute to Trump winning the nomination.
DeSantis was up significantly on Trump prior to all the legal machinations which made Trump a sympathetic figure.Others may have had a shot?
If this particular case were so worthy, the judge should have had the balls to punish Trump with more than words.

I'm sorry, but when was DeSantis up on Trump?
Jan 10, 2025, 11:17 AM

I'm looking at polling from early 2023 and Trump was well ahead. DeSantis jumped him for a very hot minute in 2022 but it didn't last long, and the legal battles for Trump had no effect there.
Sorry, man... there's no data to prove Trump's legal woes improved his standing. He was indicted in March 2023 for the NY stuff but he was already well ahead of DeSantis.

Cat, I absolutely do believe Trump's legal issues made him stronger, took all the attention off Haley, DeSantis and others and helped him to not only secure the nomination but win the election.
I didn't vote for the man, but I do have a grudging level of respect for the dude to overcome all the odds to win.
I can only hope he won't usher in a liberal Dem in 2028, but that's what I suspect will happen after his 4 years are done.

I have a challenge for anyone who thinks the legal issues were not a factor. Talk to a few black voters who voted for Trump and ask them if it was a factor for them. That voting block had a big problem with the way Trump was treated because they believe black people share that history.

The GOP primary polling always had Trump in the lead from the very beginning of 2023, before any indictments. Some people can't accept what has internally happened to the Republicans, and still want to blame Dems for what has happened inside their own party.
Dems are to blame for many things. But Trump being the GOP nominee is not one of them.

Whom they want to install as a strongman dictator. And that's it. Otherwise, they would have chosen one of the much more viable GOP candidates in the field.
If anyone out there did say, "Oh, I wasn't gonna vote for Trump but now I will because he's indicted!", that person is a complete imbecile who probably shouldn't be allowed to vote.
Either scenario means those who voted for Trump in the primary are idiots.

Trump was well-entrenched in the lead before any indictments.
DeSantis was a weak candidate surrounded by his Tallahassee crew, not veterans of national politics, and he doesn't have a personality that makes people like him.
The polls were always in favor of Trump.
You can't blame an internal GOP primary process and vote on the Dems.
Dems have plenty of problems to fix. But the GOP primary process leading to an Autocrat like Trump for the second time in 8 years is not one of them.

But if you're going to assign secondary blame, look no further than Mitch McConnell and the gutless Republican cowards in the Senate, who didn't do their duty to convict Trump and ensure that he could never run again for federal office.
If you're not willing to blame the GOP voting base for being gullible and swallowing Trump's lies about the 2020 election, then you next go to McConnell & Co.
Your narrative here misses the boat completely.

I think the Dems absolutely wanted to run against Trump instead of DeSantis or any other prominent Republican. They used this stuff to hopefully weaken him with independents while also making him even more irresistible to his base. Of course they overplayed their hand and ultimately even independents realized what was happening and were repulsed. I didn't want a second Trump administration either yet here we are and I think the whole lawfare operation played a role in making it happen by making Trump more relatable to many.

Sorry, but that's just as much conjecture as assuming the rationale of the four justices. Trump was already still a favorite among Republicans all throughout Biden's term, and the onus of him defeating qualified candidates falls squarely on that of foolish GOP voters. The charges had nothing to do with him returning to office--certainly not this case, at least. And the others charges were 100 percent valid. The only mistake Dems made was not moving faster on those to put this scumbag in prison.

Also, from NY Times:
"On Thursday, Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh noted dissents from the order requiring Mr. Trump to appear for his sentencing. So did the court’s two most conservative members, Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel A. Alito Jr. None of the four gave reasons.".
Which means they don't have a good ####### reason; otherwise, they'd have written it.

I don't think you understand what was going on. The only reason Trump had challengers in the primary were because of the potential legal issues. He hadn't been indicted yet, but he was clearly guilty of multiple serious crimes and under active investigation for them. Without the corrupt judge in Florida, Trump would have already been convicted in the documents case and forced to drop out.

Just the things that affect other felons. Can't own/handle a firearm, but he can pardon himself of it while in office. Can't vote in some jurisdictions. Can't obtain a security clearance, so if he finishes this term, he won't be able to receive intel briefings. That's probably happening anyway, because he was already the only former president denied intel briefings because of the obvious security risk.

4 more years of constant crying, whining, and complaining is in store for their miserable selves.
I know it's painful for them to put 8+ years of their lives trying to destroy Trump only to see him elected POTUS AGAIN...and all they have left to cling to is cliché name calling based on corrupt lawfare against a political rival.
So Sad. 😔
They should cut their losses and try to pull for a 'UNITED' States of America instead of wallowing in their personal loss.
