Dissociation from any sense of community. As people have become more self-centered, they are also less considerate of others. I want my dog to go into the grocery store, so why shouldn’t I take it?
I think being incapable of considering others is a sign of both low intelligence and poor upbringing. I’m not enough of a sociologist to explain whether those maladies are more prevalent now than in the past.

1) I don’t discriminate. I feel the same way about cats, pigs, ferrets, and naked humans with exposed butttholes who could theoretically pee or crap in the floor of the place where I’m shopping for food.
2) A lot of dogs aren’t as well trained as their owners think. If this becomes the norm, imagine 10-15 dogs in the store at any given moment having a confrontation every time they pass each other on the narrow aisles.
3) grocery stores are too crowded already and human beings already don’t GAF about being in your way or blocking an aisle. Now we are going to be dodging a Bernese Mountain Dog with our carts too ( not hypothetical-happened to me this past weekend in Kroger).
Whoever the first grocery store in my community is to publicly ban dogs and enforce the rule will earn my loyalty forever, and I say this as a dog owner and lover.

1/40 times I go to Lowe's / Home Depot, I'll see someone with a dog. I'll occasionally see dogs at bars, but even that isn't as much as it used to be.
I don't recall ever seeing a dog out anywhere that presented a problem personally to me.
Screaming, crying children at restaurants, wal-mart, the grocery store, or anywhere else I may go? I'm putting a 33-50% chance of being aggravated by that.

I have seen dogs in the grocery store. I have never seen them in the food. In restaurants I see them on the ground. You should be more concerned with humans who touch everything.

I had a customer bring his dog in my store Saturday and it took a big shiite on the floor. He cleaned it up and then I gave him my mop and asked for him to do the job right. Still doesn’t make me happy but at least he respected me enough to handle the situation.

I find that a whole lot of the people who take their dogs in public areas
1

Think that their dogs are well behaved and they're not. If your dog can obey voice commands despite distractions or you always make sure you have a firm grip on that leash, fine. But too many times they're letting them run around without any ounce of discipline. I don't take our dogs to the beach any more because one of them is pretty small and there's always going to be some ### clown (whether leashes are in season or not) who has let his dumb ### lab mix run wild down the beach and pounce upon the first person or dog he comes across.
I don't take our dogs out in public because they can be little yappers (that's the breed) and they're very hesitant when encountering other dogs because they're tight-knit brother and sister. I'm worried the brother will do something stupid to protect the sister and get his ### handed to him by a bigger dog. I also know people don't want to listen to my dogs yap at other people or creatures while they eat, have a beer, look for lumber (why da fuq do people bring dogs to Lowes or Home Depot?), etc.
My dogs are just fine and content chilling at home while we go out.
There's a nice community area near my house where lots of neighbors go, and someone was out there the other day with his fuckadoodle running loose off a leash. And sure enough, every person he encountered, the dog had to jump up and crotch smack them with his dirty paws. Where was his owner? Off having a beer somewhere.

Something with bright acidity to cut through the greasiness, maybe a nice Pouilly Fume or an Alsatian Riesling with a little age on it.

See a lot of people have dogs and want to be gone from the house for hours at a time.
A lot of other people like dogs but don't have dogs so in general don't mind having them around.
A lot of places like to make money, and they figured they could by letting people bring their dogs. Some places are more suited for this than others.

blow me.
I'll take my dog wherever I want to take him*. He is a good boy.
*I only take him on runs around the neighborhood and to the beach, occasionally, and he is on a leash until we get beyond the people, even though he is pretty good with just voice command.
Dogs should not be allowed in grocery stores, at all. Lowes and Home Depot are fine, just clean up after your mutt.

you switch things up and take the dog, I guess. Some people take their dogs places, it is good for them to socialize and good for brain development. Again, I got no problem with it, as long as you clean up after your pet and you don't have a shi thead dog that barks at everybody and everything.

Because its a friggin' playground after about 3 pm. Kids running around bumping into you, throwing toys around. We tried going twice, and after that it was just too much to deal with. I rode by there last week and it looked as bad as it ever did.
OTOH, I've never not gone somewhere because there are dogs there.

We had to start doing some strict rules at parties
3
Dec 10, 2024, 10:28 AM

|
There are a few big parties my wife and I throw during the year, mainly the St. Pat's one, and we had to start laying the "adults only" tag on the invites. It irritated some people but it got out of hand. At my wife's 40th big party, she and I wound up policing other drunk people's kids at our house. An unsupervised 1 1/2 year old climbing up our steep stairs. Two five year olds pouring water all over our den floor--again, unsupervised.
At my birthday party a couple of years ago, I caught a 6 year old who had locked another 6 year old in a cooler, who was screaming for his life. Not a parent to be found; mom was hammered somewhere else. Then the kid gave me an attitude when I laid into her about her behavior. Just too many thought the party was an excuse to turn them loose in other people's houses and not watch them. My buddy on the street threw a similar one years ago and caught three little ##### out in the street, each had one of his walkway solar lights in hand, smashing them onto the pavement.
After that, most parties have become adults-only. I'll permit one household's kids on the street as an exception because they are well-behaved and respect my wife and me.

5 years ago I wouldn't have believed what you just posted, but now I've seen the shid parents will let kids get away with. Ironically it's the trashier people who seem to do better with actual discipline, college educated people with good careers who you would think know better generally let their kids run all over them.
I've got some theories but I won't start that war on here...Let's just say I think too many people are accustomed to letting others do the parenting for them.

I too have noticed some correlation here. Not necessarily refusing to discipline, but just not monitoring their behavior in the right environment.
Look, I mean, I love kids. I do, and I love most of my friends' kids. But I've seen some pretty nightmare scenarios out there.
I know of one where there isn't any discipline, and both parents are very educated and well off. The 5 year old boy recently spit on the mother in my presence, and he basically received no consequences because they try to do the thing where they talk it through as if he's an adult.
Man, I don't even want to think of what would have happened to me if I spit on my mother...

I watched a kid smack his mom in the face while she was trying to reason with him like they were in a college psychology class or something. She did nothing. I would say ~75% of kids give zero fuggs and have no fear of repercussions, I get some of the smaller ones being like that but by age 7 or 8 they should know better.
The little pre-k my kid go to are losing several teachers after this year due to the kids getting worse and worse.

Also, my PRO TIP to society is to quit having kids with mentally ill people. If you're married to someone who requires 3-4 different pills to function it's probably a good idea for y'all to not reproduce. If my kids only listen to one thing I tell them, I hope it's that.

a scene about anything. It would ruin my time. I cannot, for the life of me, imagine letting a 3 year old run around a brewery unchecked. I would be so nervous they would be fu>cking with people or things they shouldn't be, that it would ruin my time.
My kids are older now and I still worry about them fist fighting or punching each other in the nuts in the middle of some restaurant or store.

breweries. Many parents use it to more or less crowd source child care, they all get together and drink nasty beers while their kids entertain each other. Having unwittingly taken part in this a few weeks back, I feel like there's going to be a war between the childless, facial piercing enthusiast brewery crowd and the hipster parent crowd. There's clearly resentment....brewing.
Breweries also generally suck and draw the weirdest fugging people around.

We only go to breweries that have good outdoor spaces for kids to play. It's no wonder why so many breweries are closing down when they're only built for childless, facial piercing enthusiasts.

We had 4 kids under 5 years old, it took everything in me not to burn that bridge with my wife's family that night. What a stupid, stupid decision, I ended up throwing in the towel and taking the kids to a Mexican restaurant next door. Just unbelievably poor decision making, but this is something they do with their kids often.
Best I can tell, there's an entire subculture that just hops from brewery to brewery all day while their kids play on a tablet, or run around like crazy as previously described in other posts. Gives me strong modern day hippie commune vibes.

why I was done with my son last night.
Well 1. I'm always around the kids. We have the same schedule. If they are not in school, they are with me. Which means, I get his rambunctiousness and constant talking ALL THE ####### TIME
And 2. I don't think a child should be rollerblading around the house, gaining speed, and throwing himself onto the couch at 9:30 at night when his bedtime is 9.
Apparently that makes me a bad parent.

There is an oversaturation of "adult" spaces.
Give you a guess which customer market is going to keep places afloat if businesses just invest a little bit in amenities geared towards families -- especially with breweries.
Maybe this would be different it if weren't for COVID, but there is one common denominator with brewery closures post-COVID, and it's that there is not the draw there used to be for brewery hopping among singles and DINKs.

Breweries/eateries/venues with good outdoor spaces.
Our favorite local brewery has a solid "out back" space that is fenced in. It's relatively small too, so easy to keep an eye on the kids as they play while you sit and have a beer.

I rarely ever go to any, because to me, they are kinda boring. I mean if I want to sit around and get drunk on meh tasting arrogance flavored summer wheat double porter Hockschlockenspiel IPA's for $9 ea, I'll just drink a weed beer on my couch and call it a day.
I'd much rather hang out in a dive bar where there is at least a chance I might hear some live music.
And it's rare there are many parents with kids hanging out in those places, especially by the time I get there.

Filthy drunk yankees are always my top answer.
And if I'm out eating or drinking somewhere, I'm going with experience and %age of times I've had a problem with a dog being where I am, which from my recollection is zero over my lifetime.
That leaves kids being the 2nd biggest PIA.
