RB Shipley is my Man but FanSided says Pace is better overall back

b/c he was better receiver & blocker in 2021 but Will was highly versatile in the kick-off & punting game, playing slot, etc.
Will did drop couple wide-open passes that could have gone for 6, with one at Pitt being one I believe. He's so eager that he sometimes trips up on his own feet which also shows his determination to excel.
What say you?

Racism.. did I miss something or were you the one typing white chocolate. ###
You joking or you don’t like white rb’s??
I am wishing Mafah emerges personally. The guy is a beast imo and not sure how good he could possibly be with more carry’s

Your lack of self-awareness in creating a racist...

...issue when there isn't one is laughable. Not one part of Bill's post was racist (intentional or unintentional) unless you want to dig really really deep and hard and play it backwards to come up with your twisted version of it.
It's race baiters like you that can't let folks of all colors just live their freaking lives without this BS thrown in their faces for absolutely no reason. You people just look all over, in every crack and crevice, and even make stuff up if need be, to find something to be offended by and try to shame others. It's disgusting.

Pace is bigger and more experienced which normally leads to better blocking. Shipley likely wins the footrace, but Pace is not a lumbering back either. Really nice to have both of them in the backfield. Don't really care which is better from a metrics standpoint. Love to see both get 1000 rushing and 500 receiving with 10-12 TD's each. And of course Mafah is going to require some touches too.

Pace and Shipley are just about exactly the same height and weight according to their Clemson write-ups.
Shipley arrived with by far the higher expectations out of high school.
Love that we have them both!
And Mafah ... Lordy! Huge, fast, and tough.
We are in great shape at RB for the coming season. Recruiting needs to pick up, though.

They are all good RBs. Now, if someone can block for our RBs. (Early 2021, most teams put 9 defenders in the box because they were not worried about CU passes.) Without blocking these RBs won't get started. Preseason reports, from the coaches, on the OL at Clemson are always overly optimistic.

I think Shipley is more dynamic and has a higher ceiling for explosive plays this year. He is mkre "electric". I would take Shipley. Kind of like how I think Justin Herbert will be the NFL MVP this year.

Pace and Shipley both bring it (y’all use your own definition for what “it” is)

Each bring their own unique styles to the game but not so different as a Davis & Spiller. I can see them both being 1,000 yd backs depending how much play goes to the other folks like Mafah.
I’ll be honest, I watched each game once. But often was playing in my phone or out with friends - so yeah I did not watch and track every play. But it seemed that once we settled into being a ball control team that is was merely the hot hand of the game that was featured.
I don’t see much changing this year even if everyone’s favorite freshman gets significant playing time. We will continue to be a ball control offense and the hot hand for the day will get the carries.
Kind of a tangent but LbB asked what say us.

I love both of them. Pace ran hard last year. He is a very good back. Shipley is too! Shipley has a higher expectation to live up too so it’s a little more pressure. Etienne couldn’t catch his freshman year either. He dropped half of the kickoffs when he was the return man. He developed into a great pass catcher.

Shipley, Pace, Mafah. All three are good, if not spectacular. Based on what I saw last season, not a whole lot of difference in the results. Would like to see more Mafah. Strikes me as possibly more explosive than the other two, but the sample size was small. And yes, Mr Shipley should put some stick 'em on his fingers. And stop tripping over those those yard lines!

Shipley has a major flaw in running too far forward
Jul 29, 2022, 3:23 PM
|

While he runs extremely hard, he runs like the contact will be a tackle and doesn't have time to get upright even when he had space for extended yards. His style will get him 5-7yds every carry almost but it's like he is running goal line defense instead of 50yd line.
Spiller should obviously see this and be great at fixing the low head running style. Dj Dixon ran too upright looking for the homerun therefore always bouncing outside but not getting the tough yds inside. ETN had the leg strength to run through tackles or speed to bounce outside. I truly think Shipley is a major gamer and he will take constructive criticism and will be even a better runner this year.
Pace is solid runner and if stays healthy will be great with just a little better attempts at blocking. Maphah could definitely show us how valuable a big back truly is as we seldom have big backs like Bama and UGA that can pound the ball inside and wear out the LBs if our OL can keep up the pace.
I think we have potentially the best mix of RBs ever on our team. My concern is depth as if 1 gets hurt we are in a bad position. We were RB rich to start last year and now we are RB strong on talent, short on ppl. Hopefully we get a couple blue chip players next year. If not, we need to check Spiller's recruiting abilities as he is not got a top commit yet.

We had another back a few years ago that ran what looked to be straight up. Cannot remember his name but I agree on Dixon the guy would have been easy to take down with that style of running if you could catch him. Hate it did not work out for him here. Hate to see anyone leave the team unless it’s needed as a form of discipline.

I hope Clemson continues to use the 2-back sets we ran later in 2021. All 3 backs have talent, and if we can get some improvement from the passing game we'll be tough to beat.
I believe we had the #82 offense last year. I'd like to see top 30 this year or better. With this defense we can go very far.

We need one of the guys to eventually emerge as an alpha-level threat so defenses have to respect the run. I'm open-minded to anyone.
There's been so much talk about Mafah. We'll see if he's legit.
Shipley's speed makes him the best home-run threat but is he useful without the ball (i.e, as a pass-blocker and decoy)?
I think Pace has a big advantage over the other two because he can pass block and our O-line will need the help.

What say you?
I'm really hopeful that Ship takes the next step this year. There were so many times where he was close to breaking off a big run for a potential TD only to be caught by the turf monster or drop a pass. If he makes those plays, I'd probably consider him the starter game 1 but he's gotta go out and do it.
IMO Pace starts as the top dog this year at RB. He was the most consistent. I'd also like to see the 2 back formation to take advantage of our deep RB pool and get creative and even have moments where Ship is in the slot and Mafah and Pace are in the back field.
Like a lot of folks have chimed in, I think Mafah has great potential and is definitely a threat to takeover at some point with more experience.
That said, I'm happy to have all 3.
I'm thinking if Pace does well enough this year, he's out due to the short life RBs have in the NFL leaving a two-headed monster heading into 2023. We definitely need to make some moves pulling in a RB either via commitment or transfer portal. Hopefully the OLINE performs better this year to give those considering us a confidence boost to make Clemson a top RB destination moving forward.
