Plyler's Blog: Pittsburgh Review

Pittsburgh Review

Pittsburgh Review
This was not supposed to happen. The thought of losing to a three-touchdown underdog never crossed my mind.

What I chose to forget was how hard it is to go undefeated. I chose to ignore the idea that this football team just finds ways to make it hard on themselves.

agreed Mickey. Two things disturb me most about this team. Both with offense. The inability to run the ball is strange. We pass Block like an NFL team and run block like pee-wees. Why can't we run block or hold blocks at least. I know Gallman wants more touches but then he can't gain a yard in two tries at a point that would have sealed the game. The second is interceptions. Looks like Watson is determined to throw the ball to his chosen receiver regardless of coverage. Does he not recognize coverage or is he so focused on his receiver he doesn't look? If this is not corrected, his tenure in the NFL will be short-lived.

1) run blocking is hard when the 2 starting tackles are not playing.
2) Watson threw like an NFL QB, Brett Favre has the record for interceptions thrown. Favre is second in td passes thrown. With no running game you throw a lot, the more you throw the more interceptions there will be.

Review of Pittsburgh Review.

1) Spelled "Pittsburgh" in title, "Pittsburg" in article. +2
2) A sports journalist who doesn't know it's a "shovel pass", not a "shuffle pass", +5
3) Misc issues like making "crossroad" into two words...+1

Wish you would have written this before the game Mick, we needed those 8 points.

The loss to Pittsburgh certainly crossed my mind, as we have flirted with disaster all year. In fact, I was darned worried when I got to my seat and it didn't take long for my fears to be justified! After all the "goings-on", what didn't cross my mind was that Watson would throw a deep, red zone pass. We needed only to run clock and attempt a chip-shot field goal for an 11 pt. lead. Nope, his doing THAT "never crossed my mind"!

Mickey, Yes the officiating was awful !!!! Our pass coverage was & has been awful. Just remember ,however, if our coaches had called 3 running plays when we had the ball on Pitts 5 yard line with about 5 minutes remaining, we would have won the game. Even if we don't score a td, we run time off the clock & can kick a chip shot fg that puts us up by 11 with probably less than 3 minutes remaining. We did not need a td in that situation, just a fg. Instead a pass is intercepted & returned around 70 yards. We lost the game the only way we could have. I would have gone for it on 4 th also, but felt a play between right guard & tackle would have been a better call. Going to the outside is the easiest way to lose yardage. Everyone saying this is a good loss as far as I'm concerned is wrong. To me a good loss is to a team who has better or equal talent.& you lose in a very tight game. Pitt is not a good team, but their coaches had a great plan & their players executed it !This loss is on the coaches, in particular Dabo, Jeff, Tony, & Brent.
