My biggest issue with the rankings is LSU at #10

Nov 3, 2022, 9:14 AM

I completely don't get this one. They lost on a neutral field to an unranked FSU team, have OOC wins over Southern and New Mexico, a win over unranked Miss State, a 4 point win over a 3-5 Auburn team, and a 10 point win over a 4-4 Florida team.

Their one impressive win was over Ole Miss which is a team that I buy as a top 25 team without a doubt, but was only in the top 10 in the first place due to being unbeaten against a weak schedule. That's an Ole Miss team that had an impressive 8 point win over a Tulsa team that's now 3-5. It's also the same Ole Miss team that had a 3 point win over a 3-5 Texas A&M team, and an Ole Miss team that was relying on a win over a Kentucky team that has now lost 3 out of their last 4 games.

Finally, the other big game for LSU this season was a 40-13 loss at home to Tennessee in a game that was 37-7 going into the 4th. I get that Tennessee is good, but shouldn't the true #10 team in the country put up a better fight at home?

I buy LSU as being a ranked team, and can maybe even buy them as being somewhere in the 16-20 range based on their resume, but #10? If they're the #10 team then I truly don't understand how FSU isn't anyone in the top 25 themselves. FSU is only 1 game behind LSU in overall record(6-2 compared to 5-3) and they have a win over LSU. In addition to that, all 3 FSU losses are against ranked teams including a 6 point loss to the #4 team, and a 2 point loss to #22 NC State in a game that went down to the final play. Even the lose to Wake was by only 10 points. The one thing LSU has over FSU besides the 1 additional win is the ranked win over Ole Miss, and shouldn't that be trumped by the FSU win over LSU? Based on the better record I can buy into ranking LSU ahead of FSU, but I don't see how in the world LSU is #10 while FSU isn't ranked at all.

It's an insurance policy for the SEC....

Nov 3, 2022, 9:18 AM

if Bama beats LSU it props their resume
if LSU beats Bama it keeps an SECWest team in the CFP hunt.

that's the only explanation

Screw Calford.

Wouldn’t it be funny if LSU snuck up and won the SEC?

Two loss conference champ (with a loss to an ACC team that we beat on the road) and potentially two one-loss non-conference champs - one who just lost its last game, and the other who didn’t even make the conference championship game. Interesting dilemma for the committee…especially if Clemson and TCU hold serve, and the only loss OSU or Michigan has is in their head to head.

I am still pulling for losses for TCU, OSU and Michigan, but this may be a fun run up to the final CFP.

I don’t buy the ‘prop up Bama’ theory. I do, however, attribute it to sec bias, with Ole Miss being the other recipient of that bias.

I fully expect Bama to beat them this weekend. After which they’ll drop, but not like a team from any conference other than the sec or b1g would drop.

Whatever choice(s) you make makes you. Choose wisely.

Here's why I say that.........

Nov 3, 2022, 11:17 AM

To date:

Clemson's resume is carrying them right now.......most would agree they haven't "passed the eye test"

Alabama's resume is NOT great to date NOR have they really passed the eye test, they've probably passed it slightly more than Clemson, but they've still had consistency problems much like Clemson has had.

the committee KNOWS they couldn't put Bama ahead of Michigan/Clemson AT THIS POINT based on the points above, but with a top15 victory vs LSU it gives them more feathers in their cap and helps justify them above TCU as well (albeit, currently there's really no justification as to why their above TCU now)............and it continues, they beat LSU @#10 and the following week they have Ole Miss @#11, which builds their case even more.

Make no mistake..........if bama had been blowing teams out with only a close loss at #1 tennessee they would 100% be above Clemson AND Michigan............but they can't do that since they haven't fully passed the eye test.

Agree on all points, but hope we’re wrong…at least this week

Nov 3, 2022, 9:23 AM

LSU has a great opportunity to be a fly in the ointment for the great SE(SPN)C playoff conspiracy. As much as I don’t like LSU or their coach, I hope they run the table and play spoiler. Pulling for chaos, but in the East, may have to settle for status quo. Maybe Kentucky, Mississippi State, Missouri or Vanderbilt can shock the world, but on November 19, it’s still GO VOLS!

LSU is LSU and with Coach Kelly there now, they have a huge boost in credibility. I know they beat Mississippi but I agree they are not deserving of being ranked ahead of Miss. Just like every other team ranked this week, time will tell because there is a lot of football left.

Your eyes are open

Nov 3, 2022, 10:16 AM

The entire ranking system is corrupt. We are being told who is good by corporations that profit from the perception of which teams are good. Yesterday on ESPNU radio one of the commenters said he was OK with LSU being one spot above Ole Miss even though they had 1 more loss, since LSU beat Ole Miss. And I was thinking, by that logic, then wouldn't you put FSU at #9? It is easier for them to think LSU had an "off game" than to admit that FSU, Wake, NC State and Clemson might be pretty good.

These are the same dudes that had Texas A&M at #6 in the preseason, pushed Arkansas to #10 in Week 4 and Kentucky to #7 in Week 5. Notice the trend?

And I'd bet if you asked 90% of college football fans who would win a matchup between LSU and FSU, they'd jump all over LSU. Tennessee vs. Pitt? They'd take TN -14 ALL DAY LONG.

Normal people have been brainwashed. If you point out any of the above, their eyes will cloud over and they'll think you're insane.

LSU has improved as the season progressed with a first year coach. I don’t get what you don’t get about that. They’re a better team than they were with that Coonass they had before
