but...
It's likely to be 14 teams when the dust settles. 2 spots are filled.
The race is on for 2 more... literally.

A Big 14 with Clemson, FSU, GT, and Notre Dame would bring in a boatload of money. I could see ND possibly liking this conference over the B1G because it gives them exposure to recruits in the talent-rich states of Texas, Florida, and Georgia.

Tier 3?

Would ND start their own network to offer their Tier 3 content, or would it be more than that?

want to be in one of the four power conferences, or associated with the "academia"... sorry Tech fans. They are in talks with Big XII right now.
I think VT will be a huge coup if they go to the Big XII. They are going to have options... but I think the SEC comes calling (but they better hurry up).
ND is a longshot... but the Big 12 has one advantage... They can offer them their own network. Still think they are Big 10 bound.
At the end of the day... I think 13 and 14 are:
GT and one of the following... UM/UL/VT

If we have the choice of Big 12 or Big 10...

We'd take Big 10 in a heartbeat. It's not even close. And that's not me personally. That's what I've heard and read. However, I'm not sure we'll have any choices. If the Big 12 is open to having us, and Clemson/FSU are as good as gone, we might have to take it instead of waiting for the B1G to make up their mind.

I'm guessing with the BIG10's academic strength, you join UNC, Duke and UVA in the BIG10. Personally, I'd love to have you guys in the same league. With CU, FSU, GT and Maryland in the Big 12, we maintain some strong rivals and are probably in a division with Notre Dame(Tier 3 TV to attractive to them), adding another top flight rival. Miami would also probably come, meaning a strong former ACC presence and reasonable road trips for the most part. Play 7 games in division(I speculate Syracuse as the addition instead of you guys with the NY TV market), and rotate 2 non divisional opponents

actually, if all this is true, it's about 14 teams

PAC!2, BIG10(!2), SEC(14), and BIG12 adds up to 50. It's going to wind up at 64 teams in these 4 leagues. It's liable to be a free for all vying for those openings
