Questions after two big court moments today
Jan 10, 2025, 2:05 PM
|
|
1. How will supporters of one of America's worst presidents in history feel now that he's historically entering office as a convicted felon on charges he 100 percent deserved despite convoluted arguments by apologists to the contrary?
2. Now that the TikTok ban will likely be upheld, where will conspiracy nuts who use that as a primary source of news, despite it being a vessel for China to foment anti-Americanism and division among people from question #1, get their new whackadoodle stuff? Or will Twitter suffice enough for filling their heads with dumb and false ideas?
Thanks, and I'll hang up and listen.

1 - You are wrong about the worst president in US history. He is not a felon. However, he only has 10 day left in office.
2 - I do not know enough about TikTok to comment other than news reports about what congress has done/said. I do no not use it.

Your #1 says exactly what this is all about. Jonathan Turley, GWU law professor, accurately called it a “sound bite sentencing”. Now democrats have their sound bite and the rest of us can get on with the business of striving ahead. So can Trump.

The convicted felon can go back to striving ahead and so can all the people with no integrity who blindly support convicted felons in positions of power for political reasons.

They will not care.
2. Hey! I like TikTok. Occasionally I learn about news from it, but mostly it's very entertaining. I've never seen anything to make me think it's anti-American or pro-Chinese.

It definitely actively pushes algorithms to create division and hateful rhetoric among young people against fellow Americans. That's their target: our potential future fighting force. They're mining their data and sowing division among them.

If that's the case, their algorithm is pretty smart about keeping me in the dark. I'm somewhat addicted to it, and it's got a steady supply of good content.

I have mistakenly thought this person was mentally ill, and kind of felt sorry for him at times, but now it's apparent he's just a troll. Although possibly also mentally ill I suppose.

2.) I hate TikTok and what it's doing to people (not just in terms of politics), but it's kind of crazy to think it'll be banned, even if it's looking like it will. Figured Supreme Court would see it as first amendment right or something.
As for your question, like you said, there are so many more places in their echo chambers to hear the same message, so it won't do anything to slow down their santorum.

But whose right to free speech is being curtailed? The foreign owners of TikTok?

but, again, I'm not saying they shouldn't be banned just that I'm surprised.

I don't think we have a constitutional right to every internet platform. That would be a tough argument to make. And by the way, I don't want them to ban TikTok.

Targeting them uniquely in the market over security concerns not unique to them

seems dubious, even if possibly warranted. It probably is a tough argument to make which is why the Supreme Court looks likely to allow the ban to happen.

1. Most people don't care that he is a felon and many question the charges. The felon critique is getting so stale in this country. So many people have drug conviction or who were roped up in nonsense. Moreover, his supporters think that it was political.
2. They will find another nutty source.

Joe used the Dept. of Justice to bring crap charges against him----similar to Hillary and her FBI pals lying to a court about Trump -Russia "collusion". If there was REAL justice-Hillary would be in jail for destroying government computers and starting an impeachment based on lies she and the Democrats concocted----Division? you mean like using the government to go after political rivals and calling Trump and his supporters garbage, Nazis, fascists, etc.
Trump asked for more security on Jan. 6 which was denied by Pelosi----There were FBI agents at the Capitol and several witnessed a man telling everyone that "tomorrow we are getting into the capitol"--yet nothing was done----and let's not forget Democrats' support for ANTIFA and BLM as they attacked police, looted and burned down buildings for months and Kamala even wanted to bail some out of jail
Spare us the lecture on political morality.

He could shoot someone in the middle of fifth avenue and not lose any of his supporters. He said so himself, and he’s right.
