Dating myself, but....
The first time I saw Shawn I was coming out of Schilletter into the pouring rain. She was coming in with a hooded rain coat and arm full of (Freshman) books. I could not see her face, but I held the door open for her as she approached. When she got to the door, she shook the hood back, smiled, said thank you, and went into the dining hall. I was completely stunned at how beautiful she was....
About a minute later I realized I was still standing there like a fool, in the rain holding door open.
Immediately afterwards went up my dorm room in Lever and told the guys I had just seen the most beautiful girl I have ever seen in my life. The response was typical. Yeah, yeah, yeah, there are lots of pretty girls on campus. I told them I know there are lots of pretty girls on campus, but this girl is really different. She was literally breathtaking, in the rain, no make-up, no anything.
That year she went on to win Miss Clemson, Miss South Carolina, Miss USA and then of course Miss Universe. I have never seen a picture that did her justice as to how looked in person.
She was simply a work of art.

I sat next to her in a box at the Gator Bowl the year we played Stanford. As a bonus I won the betting pool and took away an extra $250!

First of all, I've never seen a photo of Shawn that did her justice. She is so much prettier in person.
I used to park in the commuter parking lot and often walked behind her to class. I had told my roommate about how pretty this girl was. Then one day, he had to ride to classes with me and I pointed out Shawn to him getting out of her car. I just told him (when he could take his eyes off of her) to watch the guys that walk past her. Everyone, absolutely every one of them stared at her and as they passed her, turned around to get a look from behind. We just laughed.
I watched the Miss USA pageant when she won. It took half the show before I realized... THAT'S THE GIRL FROM THE PARKING LOT!!! Honestly, she was much prettier in person.

It was probably 1979 or 1980 I lived in the Lemans apartments on the left side of 133 going out of Clemson. Shawn lived in a corner apartment facing the large parking lot. That parking lot was usually empty during the day. I rode my bike to class and going back to the apartment would get up a good bit of speed coming downhill on 133 and then I would veer off 133 and glide through that large parking lot. One day I was doing that and glanced over and saw Shawn laying out in the sun in front of her apartment. I looked up just in time to miss a yellow VW bug that was the only car in the big parking lot.
I've always wondered if would have actually been worth it to have careened over the top of that VW and layout on top of hot blacktop for a preview of the baywatch run in the parking lot...had I lived.
