I find how Dabo handles Cade bizzare.

I dont recall any QBs getting ran over by Dabo like Cade has since he arrived on campus. DJ made ungodly bad mistakes as a junior and never got treated like this by Dabo. Never did Dabo call out DJ specifically for bad decisions or messing up a play. It was a bad start for the fan base off the rip many were divided to begin with and a good 40% of the fans believe DJ should not have been benched for Cade. This kid is not getting a fair chance to take his lumps by his coach or his teams fan base. Its sad to see. Im most disappointed in Dabo, seems like he and Cade arent on the same page at all. Almost like a defiant son father relationship at times.

Totally agree and have noticed this since day one. Dabo almost acts like he is threatened by Cade or something. It is really weird the way Dabo treats him. Would not surprise me one bit if Cade is on a plane back to Austin the day after the season ends and we never see him again. Seems like that is what Dabo wants. He has resented Cade's presence ever since he got here.

Im not going that far but he sure does not protect him like he has with other QBs and you can see them disagreeing or being irritated with one another on the sidelines in games. Crazy bc i dont see Cade as the type to have a bad attitude outside of those few moments with Dabo.

Not sure if he feels threatened, but Cade comes from the opposite background as Dabo. His Dad is an executive and they live in a $3 million dollar house back in Austin. We all know Dabo’s struggles early in life.

Dont Think You Can Manage

3

Oct 23, 2023, 8:58 PM [ in reply to Re: I find how Dabo handles Cade bizzare. ]

Dabo’s relationships. He obviously deals with many personality types and parents and egos simultaneously.
DJ was a mental basket case and could not take a scolding the way others have or will. I don’t think TL ever deserved a butt chewing.
Now think about this: Cade has not only put the ball on the ground, he has changed plays at critical times, costing us dearly.
He may need a little sandpaper to grow up and realize that the situation dictates whether you change a play, as much as the defense does.
Whatever it takes to calm him down at clutch times, needs to be done. If hit hits the portal, and I don’t think he will, he hits the portal.
I don’t ever remember a Clemson QB making so many mental errors inside the 5, both ours and theirs. So it’s good that they aren’t all warm and fuzzy right now. Let Dabo handle Dabo.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Dont Think You Can Manage

He changed a play once, you took the liberty of cubing the # of plays Cade had changed based on 1 other (briefly called into earlier in the season that both parties stated was a read option. DJ's play book was simplified to the extreme; 3 plays without variation.

Idk if i agree with that tbh. I think if they let Cade take over and get through last year there may have been more losses but this year would look ALOT different. It was painfully obvious DJ was not a playoff caliber QB after the Syracuse game. Why not start working Cade in for real after that and give him some 1st team reps. Now this year is basically Cades freshmen year, they even reported that he did not practice with the #1s until the bowl game. May as well have redshirted him with how they mishandled his snaps.

Is there another Cade on the team; maybe a long snapper? He took it upon himself to change a play without authorization and ended the game. Now there were a dozen other plays that we didn’t make that if we had would have kept us out of that position; but, the plain fact is that at the most important time of the game he willfully went against direction. He’s lucky he’s still the starter.

2

Oct 23, 2023, 8:50 PM

Many of those dozen or so other plays were not made by that same player. That goal line play where he was tackled for a safety (bad call by the refs) was one of the dumbest plays I’ve ever seen a Clemson QB make. He’s not making smart football plays yet; maybe that’s why Dabo is being hard on him. A lot of guys like being coached hard maybe that’s what he responds to.

Maybe so. The issue with that play was how badly the i believe RT got beat off the snap though. Another point id like to make, you have a struggling OT, why not put ennis over there to help him? Looked like when Chad Morris left Brandon Thomas on an island vs Clowney and made 0 attempt to help the guy.

Criticizing and putting the entire loss on a guy are 2 different things. Honestly Dabo should not have made that public knowledge. Should have been handled in house. Dabo is one of the best coaches in the buisness he knows saying the last play of the game was "rogue" is going to end with that player being blamed for the loss by most fans and even some media.

I personally think that Dabo sells Clemson to the parents and makes promises that he keeps ..... even when he shouldn’t! You can’t win big time football games without some really tough, bad #### guys. It’s great to have these wonderful young men who are great students with a clean record of being a faithful teenager but you win big games with tough guys willing to give their all every Saturday. Big, tough guys who love to kick #### every Saturday wins games.

Dabo has made our team a front page story every Sunday morning but you can’t keep doing that with the choir boys who are more interested in winning the sword drill than defeating a big time opponent. Football is not for wussies.

Cade is making poor high school decisions at QB. This started at Notre Dame and has continued to Miami.

Intental grounding calls; busted exchanges between qb and running backs; RPO in FSU game OT; saftey gift that the refs gave us in Miami; I can name many more.

He is not in command under pressure.

I realize the OL line is not worth a $$$hit this season; however, you can't keep giving the ball to the other team.

Bench him!

Dabo has been complimentary of Cade. Just last week he said that Cade prepares as well as any QB we have had at Clemson. Last year all he would say was that Cade was not ready.
He was fair toward him about choosing to pass on the RPO against FSU on the goal line. He said it was a bad read but some of that was on he and the coaches.
His response to Cade going into business for himself and running a naked bootleg straight into two defenders when the play call was a give to the RB was pretty reserved. I would imagine because he was still in shock in the postgame interview that his QB would not run the play that called.

The final play of the game Saturday Night cemented that Cade not only was not ready then, he is still not ready. A lot of talent there, but he is not so talented that he can playground it around and win a ball game by himself. Hopefully, Saturday Night was a hard lesson he can learn from and get better.

Lmfao he didn’t blame him once again he said he should’ve handed it off but the coaches shouldn’t of given him an option on that play. So by your standards he should never bring Cades name up unless he’s singing his praises.

Re: I find how Dabo handles Cade bizzare.

By my standards a top tier coach should not be leaving something like that up to interperatation. Dabo should say it was an rpo we thought we could get 6 inches on a handoff but Cade saw the numbers we gotta block better on the perimeter.

Which would be a factual statement and not open to interpreting as Cade "sucks and makes bad reads".

I’m just lost at the type of person who’s going to internet a coach saying “it’s on us coaches” then explaining the way the play should have happened as “Cade sucks”. At no point of Cade being here has Dabo ever said Cade sucks or spoken a bad word about him. He actually gets criticized on social media for continually saying Cade going to be a great one and win a lot of football games. Also think he understands Cade isn’t mentally weak. But hey for all I know Dabo wants to throw Cade in the middle of the ocean then roll out 🤷‍♂️

I typically agree with you, this is one of those rare instances where i do not. This a trend going back all the way to the GT game last year. Dabo has down played this kid and ran him over publicly more times than any other player than i can remember. Dabo has no choice now but to slow down the narrative HE STARTED about his qb not being compliant, he has no one else behind Cade. Its going to become a distraction if he (Dabo) cant reel it in. People will begin to say hes lost the locker room and every bad play will be questioning if it was a "rogue QB".

There is something odd about how Dabo criticizes Cade. Some of you guys are going too far with your wild speculation. But Dabo heaped praise on DJ when he stunk, and rarely praises Cade.

I'm not going to speculate as to why.

But I am not blaming Cade for all the fumbles. Shipley took the blame for a prior fumble when he grabbed and wanted the ball that Cade was trying to pull.

And if Cade really saw something at the end of 2nd OT, and he had successfully run I'm for a TD, would Dabo have heaped praise on Cade for being smart? I wonder. But I guess going forward, Cade might do just what coaches tell him to do ... and no more.
