that we will win one game and then be done in both the ACC tourney and March Madness this year. If that happens is this season to be considered a disappointment and should BB be shown the door ?
I say an emphatic YES.

Round of 32 would be a successful season imo. Not great, but successful.

It could be considered as successful if that's what you're willing to accept as successful!!!

I think vast majority teams in the nation would consider it a success. Maybe not for Houston? Going to the tournament and winning a game is generally considered successful. It would be kind of like going to the college football playoff, but losing this year. Moreover, Clemson going to the NCAA toournament and winning a game is successful for us.

Once every 4 years or so is successful? Our last trip to NCAA was 3 years ago, and 3 years before that, and 7 years before that. Those few trips were punctuated by grand 1st round NIT faceplants!

In 14 years, Brownell's best record is T3rd in ACC. His average finish is 7th. During his tenure 8 different ACC teams have won the ACCT, Brownell's teams have advanced to semi-finals in ACCT only once, never beyond.

Brownell has lost more games than any other HC in Clemson history.

In his 14 years at the helm, his teams have won just barely more than half of their ACC games (1 game over .500). While this is better than other Clemson head coaches, again, by barely 1 ACC win per year, it doesn't scream SUCCESS!

His overall winning percentage of .584 is just barely better than Cliff Ellis's .580. Cliff Eliss won the ACC regular season once, and was ACC Coach of the Year twice. Bill Foster, Rick Barnes, Oliver Purnell all have higher overall winning percentages than Brownell. Barnes took his teams to 3 consecutive NCAA appearances (in 4 years), average 5th place finish. Ellis took 3 of his 10 teams to NCAA, and made a Sweet 16 appearance, average finish in ACC 5.9th place. Purnell took his teams to 3 consecutive NCAA appearances (in 7 years), 6.8th place average. Brownell took OP's players to NCAA in his first year, then took 6 more years to get their again, and has never had consecutive appearances, average finish 7.14th place.

I hope past performance is no indicator of future results, because the last time Brownell make the NCAAT, the following year was a dismal 17–16, 8–12 in ACC, good for 10th and zero post-season. On the other hand, the last time we faceplanted in the first round of the NIT, we made it to Sweet 16. Given last years EPIC faceplant against Morehead St., and with Clemson almost certainly in the NCAAT this year, perhaps that history will repeat itself too.

It is successful this year. The other 3 years would be considered not successful. This year it would be a successful season.

For a successful team, NOT making the NCAAT, finishing in 6th or 7th or 12th place, faceplanting in multiple games, would be the aberration and not the norm. It would be considered a question mark on the coach's resume.

In other words, after 14 years, it's too little, too late in many peoples' minds.

At this point, the administration is like a guy who's wife has cheated on him multiple times over the decade+ of their marriage, whom he has forgiven each time before and taken her back, because *this* time she really has changed and all that heartbreak can be swept away.

I dodon'have strong feelings either way about whether Brad goes stays. I think one more year would be deserving though. I think his 14 years have been very average, but I like our recruiting class coming in, and this year can still be successful.

They should make Brown-L face Morehead St. again in the first round. If they win, His pumpers would just say he has shown improvement and want to hand him a lifetime contract.

And we may not win just 1, that will depend on the chicken scratch that Brownell draws up on that board of his, or if he will be able to uncross his arms from over his belly, I guess that is a comfortable perch for his tired arms!!!

If it has crossed your mind, yes I've been over Brownell's blank stare from by the bench for 3 or 4 years now, and yes he had me fooled for about 10 of his 14 years of getting his teams nowhere that's close to being something to brag about!!!

In a normal situation, I'd agree with you.

But what will actually happen is Brownell will be rewarded with a raise/extension for a 14th year of mediocrity.

There will not be a single coach in college basketball this year who wins 20 plus games, is seeded in the tournament who will be released. This includes Mr Brownell!

That's too bad. I was hoping Clemson would be forward-looking and tell Brownell thanks for 14 years of *just* barely above the middle of the pack results (at a cool $2M/year), and hire someone who might be able to do better instead of sticking with someone who's proven he can't.

Not at all sure about ACCT wins. I'm figuring we'll get Miami (winner of BC-Miami game), and Miami will have finally won a game after losing 9-in-a-row and will have found their spark even without Nijel Pack.

Combined with Brownell's (or is it just JK's?) theory about "resting" the players for the NCAAT (which we've seen in a couple of games here at the end of the season), Miami is primed to run Clemson out of the gym.

Hopefully, though, we win that game and again on Thursday against UVA (although Brownell is 1-15(?) vs UVA, so that seems less likely), and again on Friday and Saturday.

With the talent we have this year, missing the tournament would make it a disappointing season. Given how few times we have made the Big Dance in our history, making it would be a good season. Winning a couple of games from there would be a great season.

Not sure. After Winning a game in the NCAA tournament, It’s tough to fire a coach, unless you’re Kansas, Duke, Kentucky, or UNC

In lite of history I’m going to sadly go ahead and call it successful. We let some games get away that we should have won no doubt but not being a bubble team is a definite difference than years past.

I have really enjoyed this season. There was several games where the Tigers got No breaks from the zebras that helped them lose and a very few games where they just didn’t play well but, all in all this was a good team. Very very few games where they just weren’t ready to play. Encouraging to see some new kids get a chance to play in big games. A dozen more baskets could have put our team in the top ten or fifteen and highly ranked headed to the big dance. Let’s hope that our coach has every player ready to go at tourney time.
