Great Clemson World Article

Dave and Lynette Snow last year gave $25 million to the Lyceum Program now renamed the Snow Institute for the Study of Capitalism.
The goal is to ultimately raise $100 million for various projects including Capitalism Unleashed.
At a time when many young folks are kicking the tires of socialism I think this is a great gift to further an imperfect system, but one that in my opinion is better than socialism.

Medical insurance, livable minimum wage, food assistance, housing assistance, childcare and public education starting at K-4 are all examples of programs to meet basic societal needs of disadvantaged in the greatest economy in the world.
There’s a lot of government assistance to various business sectors including MIC, big Pharma, certain technology, farming and real estate development that go unchallenged.

‘member back when minimum wage jobs was what you did in high school to put gas in your car? Now the socialists in America think you should be able to raise a family of 4 on min wage.

A few of those things Tropical mentions above would help ensure a more educated and capable workforce…those people in underserved communities move up the ladder and give the teens back their jobs…win/win.

That's because the literacy rates of HS graduates in many deep blue cities is near zero. They know their constituents better than anyone.

Put the average literacy of a typical blue city up against any red rural area...

Let's see how that stacks up.
I'm always amazed at the seething hatred that MAGA has for blue cities.
Some of your Blue cities pay the bills in this country. They usually send more taxes to Washington than anything they receive. That certainly holds at the state level, where most net payors are Blue, and most net payees are Red.
But your open hatred of them is indicative of what powers MAGA.

No to living minimal wage, that's not what those jobs are about in my opinion. We already have some degree of food assistance and I wouldn't cut that. I'm not opposed to basic no frills medical assistance. I wouldn't cut Medicaid. The housing situation is a mess, but I suspect getting the government more involved would lead to higher prices as in college tuition.
Lastly if we're even going to consider K-4 education, which is a good idea in my opinion, then private options need to be on even footing with public to give parents a choice as public education is continuing to fail our kids. The same goes with childcare. Church and private childcare or a parent that chooses to stay home out of the work force to take care of kids should get consideration as well if we are going down this path.

Our leaders need to have rational discussion regarding these issues

And not be predisposed to partisan extremes and name calling. A society where there’s a growing population of economically disadvantaged is not making things great. In fact, it could be argued that it’s a society in decline.
Solutions can be debated but ignoring the issues and casting blame only further exacerbates economic inequality that may become destructive.

The poor have: food assistance, housing assistance, free healthcare, and free education.
The welfare state of America exploded when those "free" items were expanded, and your solution is to expand them again.
What again is economic inequality? Because I was born with zero.

compliment each other fairly well.
Capitalism is the engine of business & growth, and Socialism helps ensure that people that don't do as well have a safety net to cushion their fall and that general public goods are available to all.
The two systems don't really compete so much as compliment each other.
