The "Ohio State should jump FSU" campaign will be in full

Nov 8, 2013, 9:27 AM

effect on ESPN/ABC after this weekend. They are salivating over the national numbers that a Bama-OSU would attract.

Bama-FSU would have good TV ratings too, but it would be more regional and would not match the number that Bama-OSU would likely post.

The ESPN campaign will be in full effect, as this is their last chance to influence the BCS before the playoff format.

I think MSU will take care of that problem.

BAMA/FSU ratings would blow BAMA/OSU out of the water.

I doubt that.***

FSU is a national brand just like OSU.....No one wants to see OSU wet the bed in the Nc game again

The only people who care about OSU are OSU fans. IMO Football fans in general would much rather see a FSU vs. Bama.

Not a chance

Nov 8, 2013, 9:29 AM

If anything, ESPN would rather have FSU because of their ACC contract. Plus they get to build hype on Famous Jameis.

Exactamundo.......if FSU were a faceless team like say

Nov 8, 2013, 9:32 AM

Stanford, I would maybe agree with the OP, but FSU has the school history and they have Winston, the ESPN darling right now. They long ago moved on from hyping Braxton Miller.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The contract would not matter for teh champioship game.

Nov 8, 2013, 9:33 AM [ in reply to Not a chance ]

ESPN has the broadcast rights, so in essence any tema from a non-ESPN conference would just be poached numbers.

ESPN would like to have the Bama-OSU numbers fro the championship game and the FSU ratings for another BCS bowl.

Yes, it matters. You're just thinking about today

Nov 8, 2013, 9:42 AM

but you're not thinking about next year and the year after that. They get to hype Jameis for at least one more year after this year. In regards to ESPN/ABC's contract with the ACC, if Jameis and FSU wins a MNC in his redshirt freshman year ESPN will capitalize on that big time. Whereas, if it's The OSU, ESPN knows they will not carry a single OSU game next year.

Re: The "Ohio State should jump in a lake "

Nov 8, 2013, 9:31 AM

they have played anyone worth a darn. it is criminal they are ranked as high as they are

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-74tiger.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Disagree here

Nov 8, 2013, 9:56 AM

It is true, they have a very soft schedule this year. And I wouldn't even consider for a second putting them in the title game over any other undefeated team from an AQ conference.

However, they are ranked where they are because they are undefeated, and it really hasn't been close.

Now, I believe we'd also be undefeated against their schedule (as would a good number of other teams in the nation), but in the end you can only judge them on winning the games they have in front of them.

Agreed: 2013 Ohio St = 2012 Notre Dame

Nov 8, 2013, 9:58 AM [ in reply to Re: The "Ohio State should jump in a lake " ]

And we all saw how that ended up...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not sure about that

Nov 8, 2013, 10:06 AM

Don't get me wrong, I don't think they are one of the best two teams, and their schedule should preclude them from getting a shot over any other AQ undefeated teams.

However, ND last year won a lot of games late and had some serious luck on their side quite a few times. OH state has been in 1 game that wasn't won by double digits. I do think it's a bit of a stretch to think they're in the same situation as ND last year.

Huh? ESPN is actively saying that Bama, Oregon, & FSU

Nov 8, 2013, 9:59 AM

will need to lose for Ohio State to get in. Oregon has now lost, but they're still adamant about it, and they're even saying an undefeated Baylor would jump Ohio State.

Also, a Bama v. FSU matchup is a higher profile matchup, ESPN would prefer that over Bama v. Ohio State. Ohio State has shit the bed too many times against high profile opponents for ESPN to want that again.

Ohio St. is almost a full tenth of a point behind FSU and no pollster is going to jump Ohio St. into second. No amount of campaigning can stop FSU if they just keep winning.

You may be right, but I think many Ohio State fans........

Nov 8, 2013, 10:04 AM

are very happy now with the prospect of playing Oregon in the rose bowl. This gives them a great shot to prove themselves against an elite team in the rose bowl, which to many or the older Big10 fans is barely a notch below the NC game anyway.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Oregon would absolutely SMOKE OSU in the Rose Bowl...

Nov 8, 2013, 10:28 AM

And put them in the NC - against anyone - and it'd get 10x worse.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

But they're not in the SEC? I thought ESPN only cared about

Nov 8, 2013, 10:27 AM

SEC teams. Can someone do me a favor and list all of the agendas ESPN has, so I can keep them straight? TIA.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up
