That's a segment I've seen on pregame shows.

Well, Tigers, you have one job.

Tigers kickoff at 7:30. Noles kickoff at 8:00. I'll be watching both games, 2 TVs.

But, Tigers, you have one job. Be up 21-0 by time Noles kickoff. I don't want to be switching my eyeballs back and forth every 2 seconds. I'm old. My heart can't take two close games from my two favorite teams simultaneously.

You have one job. Do it!

I think you meant you have one job. Had is past tense. Did you attend FSU?

I accept your apology.

The name of the segment is "You had one job." Past tense. It is a recap of what had already happened. When I started talking about Clemson I used present tense. Both times, when referring to the game tonight I said, "You have one job." Present tense.

I accept your apology and forgive you. Game days get people focused on things other than contextual grammar.

And, no, I actually didn't go to FSU. Graduate, bachelor's and master's, of Valdosta State. (South Georgia. That's why I know so much about cornbread and grits.)
