Trevor is not wise beyond his years
Sep 9, 2020, 8:29 AM
|
|
While well intentioned, he is a kid. He has never faced true adversity. Tried to get a job in a bad economy. Been responsible for the lives of others.
I don't need to be lectured to by a 19-20 year old kid getting a free college ride with spending money to boot.
My father died serving his country when I was 5. My mother raised 3 of us on her own. I had to get a job in the Jimmy Carter economy and the best I could do was lay flooring. My first mortgage was 12.9%.
I have no doubt that in my lifetime on average it has been harder to be black than white. But I also know that I got passed over for a job because they had a quota to fill. I know that my daughter didn't get into her first college choice when her rich black friend did - who had lower grades and a lower SAT.
Trevor has barely lived. He barely has live experiences. He is not wise beyond his years - he is a naive kid that should do his homework before he supports a marxist organization whose goal is disruption of the nuclear family.
Some of you will say good riddance to me and my 30 years of IPTAY contributions but I promise this - if BLM shows up on the field, on the screen, on equipment or anywhere else, I'm out. I will not pay money to a university or any other place that supports that organization.

You support a hate group who marches down the streets of Dallas Tx shouting, "What do we want? Dead Cops!" And then ambush and shoot 7 Police Officers, killing 4, who were there to protect their right to march and protest. Such a Great group to support! I love college football, hate the NFL, I really love Clemson football, BUT there are things in this world much more important than football, America and law and order happen to be two of them. Dabo and Will Muschamp, have both said, they held team meetings about the shooting of a Black Criminal in Wisconsin and discussed it with their teams. Both coaches have even participated in "Peaceful Marches" for BLM. Yet, Trevor, Dabo or even Muschamp have said one word, had any team meetings, marched or protested about a Black Criminal, here in S.C., who slaughtered and murdered an innocent man and his daughter in cold blood! Do their lives not matter? Of course not, to the coaches anyway, why, it doesn't effect recruiting. And the young woman, who was beginning her career as a teacher this year, I guess her life doesn't matter because she was only going to try and teach children to read, write, think and reason, not run, pass, catch, or block. You go ahead and support BLM, but tell me, "what have you ever defended"? LIke I said, I love college football, but none of these kids have ever put on a uniform and defended a Nation, they have put on a costume and defended a football.....

This has nothing to do with supporting team mates. If they want to act like they are hurting over some bs narrative and cry like little babies then let them. Some of us have what is called morals and principles. The very core of our country is being threatened and not for the better. If you can't see what this organization stands for then i can't help you. Maybe you do know what it stands for and still chose to support it. As stated above if one thing shows up on this team an any way supporting blm then Clemson university can say goodbye to another supporter because I will not bow down to these uneducated idiots.

Ok, the dude supports his teammates and sticks his neck out for them. just say what IF his teammates start pressuring him to come out and say change the name of Clemson to something else, Clemson is offensive to us. What is the reaction going to be then. It may be a long shot but it could happen.

national championship. I graduated from Clemson and so did 2 of my children. I would rather see our football program end than see it support a marxist organization bent on destruction of the family and our country.
If our sports programs start that stuff I will leave IPTAY and the alumni fund. I hope our University will think long and hard before jeopardizing our school for some naive athletes.
I supported renaming Tillman and I support addressing continuing racial inequality. I also support addressing continuing gender equality and supporting our police. I do not support marxism and never will.

IF BLM GAVE A #### ABOUT BLACK LIVES THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN IN CHICAGO TUESDAY MORNING IN THEIR IDIOT MAYOR'S OFFICE AND TRYING TO STOP BLACKS SHOOTING AND KILLING BLACKS IN CHICAGO. 100 SHOT OVER THE WEEKEND, 10 DEAD INCLUDING AN 8 YEAR OLD GIRL. BLM, IS A HATE GROUP, AND THE MARCH AT CLEMSON AND IN COLUMBIA ALL HAD BLM SIGNS AND SHIRTS. DABO HAD A TEAM MEETING, SO SAYS, TIGERNET, OVER A THUG BEING SHOT WHILE RESISTING ARREST IN WISCONSIN LAST WEEK, BUT DID DABO OR MUSCHAMP HAVE A TEAM MEETING OVER A BLACK THUG IN GEORGETOWN MURDERING A WHITE MAN AND HIS 23 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER? OF COURSE NOT, AND LIKE I'VE SAID SO MANY TIMES ON HERE, WHY NOT? BECAUSE IT DOESN'T EFFECT RECRUITING !

BLM the organization does indeed promote on its website page the destruction of the nuclear family. There is video evidence of one of its founders stating in a very matter of fact manner that she and her cohort founders are Marxists.I take her at her word and actually admire her honesty. The concept that black lives matter is absolutely correct. I don't know of anyone personally that supports racial discrimination and I certainly feel we can look at ways to improve police/ black and yes white interactions. There is very little to find fault with trying to improve racial harmony. However, I have zero intention of supporting anything to do with the BLM organization such as the BLM flag, logo, etc. If Clemson athletics decides to wave or show the BLM black and yellow logo or flag with raised fist, I am 100% done. Symbols matter. Most things are more important than football. It's a nice diversion from everyday life. Many life lessons from playing sports are useful. If Trevor and Dabo are using this time to listen to the black athletes and try to understand where their thoughts are, that's fine. I haven't heard that Trevor or Dabo are supporting the BLM organization, but if so, they are naive. I think their motives are good, but there is a huge difference between the concept that black lives matter too and BLM. For everyone bothering to read what I have written, if you haven't gone to the BLM website, please do so and take just a moment to research the founders. This IS a radical organization

Is a National Champion worth selling out to be on the wrong side of a racist movement bc black talented kids believe in that movement??? My answer is H&11 no!!! I'm all for, and I have always been for equal justice for every American citizen in our country. In no way am I going to side with a movement that suggest one race should have more or more rights than another bc of what happen in this country over 150 years ago, I am not at all interested in paying for the crimes that were mostly committed by the rich during the times of slavery in my country. Neither am I willing to pay a price bc our leaders back then were promoting that African American were a lesser race among the white race that lead to the treatment of the black race after slavery was abolished in America. I will only go along with change hand in hand as we're all created equal in the eyes of God with the only difference is our skin color that doesn't make one color supperia over another. I will stand for equal equality, and opportunity for every/all people of the human race in the United States of America that are willing to work as one for the same rights of us all!!!

You come on here and comment about something you obviously know nothing about. You just make yourself look ignorant with posts like these. Also there is a reason you can't find guns or ammo anywhere right now. Get a clue dude.

nor have I heard of it in my town, area of my state, or even in my state for that matter. Well, other than for maybe a day or two some months ago.
Simple supply and demand would explain ammo and gun scarcity. And even that is driven by fear. Fear of somebody coming to your house and taking your property, lol.
In short, no I am not glued to OAN or Fox watching scenes from Portland while feverishly trying to buy bullets. Maybe I am ignorant and the "mob" will be here in a few hours?

You must live in a republican run state. Charlotte and Charleston are 2 hours away from me. You just sit there and pretend nothing is happening. It will reach you in some shape or form and if you are not rioting with them you are a target. Stay safe and good luck!

I won't need Trevor to defend me against a wrongful mob/group. I made the same promise for protecting my home and my family as I did when I swore allegiance to the United States Army to protect and defend my country, and that was to protect it with my life in war on domestic or foreign lands. And I will protect my home and my family to the very last breath in my body, and I have the means to do so if faced by a rogue mob wanting to do me or my family any unjust harm, that I swear!!!

I agree 100%. I lived through those same times without a pot to pee in or a window to sling it out of. I made mine with hard work and perseverance. Things these players and most of the whiny liberals know nothing about. I'm a donor, not a 6 figure donor but a very high 5. I happen to know 4 six figure donors that are going to walk for the same reasons. Not boasting but it is what it is. I watch games with them every weekend they play. We don't go to games because we choose not to. Most of the time our tickets aren't even used. I am afraid if many donors decide to pull funding the program will be in shambles. Who will pull that slack. I can guarantee you BLM won't be around for that part of the equation.

There are many other donors like you and me (30 years giving to IPTAY) and my dad (63 years giving to IPTAY) and my uncle ( a $30,000 a year donor who also purchased an entire luxury suite) who will walk away at the first sign of politics or BLM on the field, the jumbotron, or the helmets and uniforms at a Clemson football game. Someone needs to tell them that football is supposed to be fun and when it isn't fun anymore, we will keep our money and stay home.

I am writing them and the President and the Alumni Association. That football field is in Clemson property and if BLM shows up anywhere in campus I am out.
There are either a lot of naive people about that organization or people that agree with the disruption of the nuclear family and Marxism but too chicken to say it. Or one other reason - football is more important than our country or the future of our children.

I was at the march for the team a few weeks back and on the stage at Bowman Field there it was one big Black Lives Matter Banner. All the players that were there stood right under that banner and everyone who spoke that day stood under that banner. Dabo made the statement that day and this is a quote from him "all lives do not matter until BLACK LIVES matter". So BLM has already been on the Clemson Campus and endorsed by Clemson and its leadership.

Left wing Marxists don't care if you get hit by a bus, much less whether you decide to withhold donations, since they hate your guts anyway. They get to cram their agenda down your throat without any real downside since you keeping your money only hurts the football program, which left wing Marxists also despise. In their world they either want football destroyed or they want it to be a giant recruiting tool for their cause. Convert or die is the rallying cry of the modern left and their Marxist masters. I don't blame college players for lacking the sophistication to see what's going on. The NFL, on the other hand, has zero excuses for groveling at the feet of a group that would line every owner up against a wall if they had the opportunity. Talk about a self defeating embrace of the enemy. Neville Chamberlain would be proud.

in time young Trevor will learn that even though he has a platform, he doesn't always have to climb up on it. We love Trevor an all of his teammates, but not to the point that we are willing to allow a bunch of 18-22 year olds with zero real life experience dictate what we should believe. If you have never paid taxes or paid monthly bills or struggled to provide for your family, then maybe you should just sit and listen before you start giving advice.

Yes, because I worked my butt off since I was 15 years old. I worked to put a roof over my family’s head and food on the table. Sorry bud but that gives me a lot more life experience than a19-29 college football player who knows exactly where his next meal is coming from.
I love Trevor’s football ability, committment to Clemson and his attitude. But he needs to take it down a notch until he has some real life experience. And no one at Clemson should be supporting BLM. They should do their homework- after all they’re students.

Did you read the article? He's not joining BLM. He declares right up front that he's not an a"activist." Rather, he's simply supporting his teammates who "feel oppressed" in the culture?? Are they? I don't think so. But that's not the point. Trevor is a remarkable young man who is doing what good leaders do. So why not save your self righteous piety and give him the benefit of the doubt. When he's our age (Class of 77), he may feel differently. He may not. He's entitled to his opinion. But I also think he's entitled to a measure of "grace" from "Clemson people" when you consider what he's done for our football program in just 2 short years. He'll go down in the record books as one of the all time greats to ever play for "the Paw." So cut him so slack, will ya? Go Tigers!

I agree. I did not sense activism nor antagonistic attitude in his actions. Rather, just a unifying act to show solidarity in the brotherhood of the team, showing compassion to teammates. Lots of these kids have grown up being preached to for so long that they believe they are victims that it's ingrained in them. One thing is certain, though, as members of Clemson's football team, they are not discriminated against in our program. I dare say that nobody is any more color blind than Dabo and our staff. JMO

WILLY1505 I agree. I also agree that BLM will not be welcomed on the field etc. It's a confusing time for all of them. Sometimes things have to go to an extreme to get balance back to the middle. We'll be fine, let concentrate on football and give the players time to figure it all out.

You and a bunch of others, including myself, will be out. If they want to wear #endracism then great. I will buy that shirt too. But, if BLM is branded on anything Saturday, CUAD is going to have a huge problem Monday morning. Why all the secrecy? A week before game day our starting quarterback posted his message and the athletic department is radio silent. What message exactly is going to be evident Saturday? If we are truly a family, let the fans in on the messaging too.

I mean, how in the world could he POSSIBLY be beyond his years. After all, he's never been unemployed when trying to support a family, lucked into a free ride to college, his parents didn't die in a war, wasn't raised by a single mother, didn't live through the Jimmy Carter years, probably hasn't laid flooring, and dang sure hasn't paid 13% mortgage interest.
Thank you for passing along all of the absolute qualifications for being "beyond his years".
Can you point out one single instance where he says he supports the BLM organization?
So, instead you accuse him of supporting or potentially supporting the BLM organization, and say he's a naive kid. How would you describe your own kids at the same age? I'd be scared to see the truth assuming you will be consistent.
Take your 30 years of IPTAY money and shove it in your ###. Sounds like you are looking for an excuse to do that, so just go ahead.
He is a young man doing far more at his age than 99.9% of the world at the same age, and I can assure you your petty negativity is being laughed at.

Trevor needs to make a statement that his only interest is in winning football games for Clemson and he doesn’t give a rats @$$ what his team mates care about. If you’re black, tough shyatt, get out there and play and help me win so I can get to the NFL and make millions while you are back home mowing laws and washing cars for a living. I don’t care about your “people” getting murdered. It’s all about me

I give about $3,500 a year not counting paying for the tickets. I have donated for over 30 years, including some very lean years for me and the team. You’re right, someone will step in. Will they be there when we’re not winning championships anymore? Trevor may not have said BLM (I would have to rewatch) but you can bet that’s what this continued harping will lead to. Does he care about the lives of police lost every year?!? Do blue lives matter to him?

doing "all the harping". Reread TL's message. THERE LITERALLY IS NOT EVEN A MENTION OF BLM. So drawing a line from his message to him supporting the BLM organization is simply not even rational. It's the work of people caught up in extreme politics.
Does he care about the lives of dead police? I'm sure he does. I mean, I can't be 100% sure I guess as he hasn't addressed that.
Nor has he addressed his feelings on those that have died of drowning, those with terminal illness, nor those burned to death in fires.
Again, simply stating support for ending racial injustices doesn't mean he doesn't care about many other things. I struggle with how so many cannot wrap their head around this.
I like Clemson. That does not mean I hate South Carolina. I like warm weather. That does not mean I hate cold weather. I hate speed traps. That does not mean I love speeding.
See how that works?

want to watch Clemson play football. But I was wrong.
Anyone who supports BLM can go straight to hell.
If college football goes like the NFL and starts openly supporting BLM, it will solve that whole problem with colleges making money "on the backs" of the players. Because no one will be making money anymore.
I'm glad I got to experience 2018, and was in California that awesome night when we dismantled Bama. But I fear we're about to lose a lot more than college football.

You're being just as naive as you accuse Trevor of being
Sep 9, 2020, 10:38 AM

|
with this post.
He has been very outspoken about his faith in the past and how it has helped shape him. Nobody was calling him naive and just a kid then. But now you are calling him naive for speaking up for his peers, friends and teammates? Because that is what he is doing. He has listened to his black teammates and has been selfless in making their concerns important to himself, at the risk of losing fans like you.
Would you prefer he ignore his teammates and be all about himself in this situation?
His speaking out has nothing to do with "marxism". He is simply being the team leader off the field as much as he is on the field.

That's really what this boils down to.

Just a couple of thoughts on your post, which except for the attack on Trevor, has good intentions.
You are wrong to say he has no life experience. He has a very different life experience than you do which means that each of you could likely learn a lot from the other.
Saying he has a different experience than you does not mean he can't be "wise beyond his years". He has seen many things that in all of your experience, you have never seen. He has clearly learned in a different way than you did.
Finally, he is very clear that he supports his teammates, who he loves greatly, and their cause.
If you want to be mad at somebody, be mad at the professionals in all areas who are adults but simply stomping their feet at a problem. Do not be mad at the youth who is developing a plan to help each other.
I completely agree with your desire to not see evidence of the BLM organization on Clemson gear or fields.
However, one thing that I try to remind myself in this area is that someone saying "black lives matter" does not mean they are supporting the BLM group that seems to have very different motives than simply helping black people.

Trevor is being an ally to the black community which is what we need more of to overcome racial inequalities in this country. He has listened to his closest peers (much of whom are black by the way) and decided that he can do more to help. Simple as that.

Trevor has been nothing but phenomenal on and off the field, a clear leader, wise dispite his age. I couldn't be prouder of this young man. I'm glad he doesn't allow those that do not agree with him to change his focus. He knows his platform and how to use it. Trevor is going to be a beacon of light for years to come. Can't think of a better person to be the face of Clemson and college football right now.

The point the OP makes is a little short-sighted
Sep 9, 2020, 12:01 PM

I do support black lives. I do not support the BLM organization. However, the OP sounds as hypocritical (or at the very least as uninformed) as he claims Trevor to be.
You can't claim "TL is naive" and still cast stones for when he falls for an organization - who on the surface - appears to be supporting all Trevor stands for. If you truly believe he doesn't know any better because he hasn't done his homework, that's fine. But to say he's unqualified to believe in and speak of racial equality because of his age, well... that's just ignorant.
I'm teaching my 9 and 11 year old kids the value of human life, regardless of skin color or any other external orientation. And I PRAY that one day they are as eloquent, passionate and influential as Trevor. But, I do agree with the OP that Trevor needs to do more research. My kids will grow to understand the nuances and intricacies of what they're talking about more than Trevor seems to have done. Hopefully he will wise up about the organization, and find ways to accomplish his very noble goals without supporting such an organization as BLM. But to turn a deaf ear to what Trevor has to say... or for us adults not to understand his heart, because of his age, is by definition, bigotry.

Some of you will say good riddance to me and my 30 years of IPTAY contributions but I promise this - if BLM shows up on the field, on the screen, on equipment or anywhere else, I'm out. I will not pay money to a university or any other place that supports that organization.
Yep. Good riddance. Support your school and team. These are the glory years. And don't slam our players on message boards.

I've always heard, and I believe that when you choose your battles, you should know, and fully understand why you're choosing to fight that battle bc it could be the death of you. So I say that IPTAY should choose wisely bc, the noise they are hearing the loudest could be from only a few bc the majority is sitting back quietly before choosing a side. If the BLM group is truly a marxist group as some suggest they are, (I haven't done any research myself) and if IPTAY is seriously backing the BLM movement, it could seriously injure IPTAY to a state of Bankruptcy, and that could end what Dabo has worked so hard to build at Clemson!!! IMO though, with things getting as serious as they are with equal justice for all in America, you da mn well better have all the facts before you choose a side that you're going to back!!!!
