Defensive line End to Tackle

Looking at these dudes after weigh in move around at practice this week, and these guys are huge

Im not talking about fat either, I'm talking 300lbs of pure muscle

If UGA’s game planning to run the ball between the tackles or off tackle like they are used to doing, I think they make be in for an unpleasant surprise.

Let me just say that Demonte Capehart is going to be a big problem for anyone that plays him.

We saw big flashes last year (blowing guys off the ball vs ND and UNC, but the knock has been conditioning and consistency. This guy is heading into fall camp in peak condition and I think he's got the potential to emerge as a dark horse nfl first round pick.

Is he there today? Has he proven it? No

But I'm calling it now. Peter Woods and TJ Parker command double team's and help no matter the competition, and Capehart, Page and Williams are going to get lots of mano-e-mano opportunities and it ain't going to be pretty!

O has to perform to keep our D fresh. Otherwise, it gets ugly late.

be able to just line it up and run it down our throats right off the bat

Sure, if we can't keep our D off the field they will eventually wear down

If UGA turned the ball over like we did last year, they would have had the same record. They almost lost to USuc, GT, Auburn, and Mizzou. And here is a state - they had 2 or less turnovers in all those games. So UGA wasn't some mythical dominant team that just kept turning the ball over 3-4 times.

I think they will miss Brock Bowers more than most people think. There were a couple of times when the 'Dawgs looked to be in trouble and they found Bowers who saved their bacon. They will be tough and probably will win the game, but I do not expect them to dominate either line. If we get some good receiver action and Mafah keeps them honest, we could surprise them.

Completely agree.

With the qualifier admission that I didn’t see much of Gronkowski’s college FB days, Brock Bowers was the best college TE that I had ever seen. Ever. Not just pass catching. He was a tremendous blocker, too. The only thing that stopped him was his injury.

Without Super B on UGA’s team, they are beatable. Extraordinarily tough, but beatable.

Brock Bowers and Ladd McConkey spreading the field out for the running game.

I see our defense doing a similar job against Georgia's running game and forcing Beck into more obvious passing situations, but without Bowers and McConkey. Beck may not be on the same page with his transfer wide receivers in their first game.

Alabama's mobile QB and a turnover by Beck were the differences in the game.

DC was great playing a relatively small number of snaps but the question will be if he can be similarly productive playing a lot more this season.

^^^^ this ^^^^

For the past few years (the ‘no CFP for you’ years), we still had plentiful high quality depth at the DT position. Indeed, some of that depth was not known to be of such high quality when the season started. 2023 was the exception (we knew that we were 3 levels deep at DT before T.Williams went down, at which point our DT position was still able to rotate 5 studs).

This year, with the move of P.Woods to DE, our proven DTs are only 3. We’re going to need for at least one from among S.Green, V.Burley, H.B-Shuler, C.Thompson to be ready-to-go starting Aug. 31 if we’re going to be a top tier defense in 2024.

I am confident, but haven’t yet gotten the ‘it’s a sure thing’ feeling that I had for our DT unit when 2023 season had begun.

You forgot about Vic Burley . He is a 5 or 4 rating according to where you look. he is massive. 322 LBS of muscle. People forget about him because he didn't play last year. He was neck to neck with Burley. He's going to be wow.

He was neck to neck with Woods in the rankings. Bad thing to drink this early.

You are right. If he steps up, we will have 4 guys (5 with woods)

That we can rotate in a DT.

I think we are going to see more effective 3-4 fronts this year too.

We tried it early in non 3rd down passing situations, but without success because XT just wasn't an elite run stopper.

Woods at DE gives a lot of flexibility to move between a 3-4 and 4-3 that most other team's could only dream of!
