How quickly we forget

I can remember a time when getting a four star to commit to Clemson was a big deal! Now some fans whine and ##### and moan if several five stars don’t commit. NIL this and NIL that, it was created and I understand that, you gotta dance with the one who brung ya. Clemson will not compete against Ohio State, Texas, A&M, Michigan, Bama, etc without rule changes and governance from a toothless NCAA. Recruiting is cyclical in many ways including which five stars are available and want to commit to your school. If money is the deciding factor then Clemson won’t compete, they would leave and go to the highest bidder anyway as Clemson doesn’t have the money to outbid big oil and huge fan bases. The sky isn’t falling Clemson will compete by following Dabo’s philosophy. If you don’t like it and it affects how you feel about Clemson you are not a fan anyway. I hear South Carolina is a good place for you people to go be fans! They change coaches every couple years use the #### out of the portal and win 5-6 games a year on a consistent basis.

Dabo's approach to pay Clemson coaches the maximum, to restrict NIL payments for high school recruits (if accurate), and to not utilize the transfer portal may or may not be a successful adaptive approach. But that's why Dabo makes the big bucks and sets the philosophy. It's worked amazingly well in pre-portal/pre-NIL days.
In reply to TigerChrisL® post, money looks to be the "deciding factor" in the short term, but he's right about cyclical patterns. Realignment to the P2 will bring additional TV revenue to the equation and should help the next cycle. That may be the needed "Get Out of Jail Free Card", and the cycles will continue tochange.
I'm optimistic Clemson Football will play and outperform with a big chip on their shoulder in 2024. I'm all in on this 2024 team being hungry, improved and aggressive. But expecting any assistance or clarity from the NCAA does not seem realistic at this time. Greg Sankey and recently appointed B1G commissioner Tony Petitti (long time senior executive at CBS Sports and ABC Sports who has overseen rights acquisition deals for the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, regular season men’s basketball, college football, NFL, PGA Tour, the Masters, U.S. Open Tennis Championships, and the Little League World Series, and creation of the college football Bowl Championship Series to determine college football’s national champion) will be calling most of the shots with the networks not the NCAA.
Let's pull in some O-Linemen who want to be at Clemson. Go Tigers! Beat UGA!

College sports is being assasinated. It won’t be long and it will not be worth watching. When greed is the driving factor it is destined to fail. College football was one of the few things left where pride in your school and work ethic and productivity was rewarded even if only after 3 years. Now kids are expecting everything they want and have the right to quit on the team and teammates if they don’t get their way. If this continues it’s going to be ruined like the NFL.

Because unless our recruiting and coaching up of players already on the team improve drastically, we will likely be back to 7-4 again (before the carolina game, at least). Unfortunately, this time 7-4 probably won't be good enough to win the ACC, which is why they put them Pepsi-Coler bottles out.

We didn't win the ACC in 1974. They put the bottles out because of an undefeated home season.

They aren't band wagon. Expectations have changed. They would still be fans.

Expectations can also change to the extent that they’re unreasonable. Maybe that doesn’t make you not a fan, but it’s highly likely to make you an unhappy one a good deal of the time.

You say they are spoiled, I say they have been awakened to what it's like to have a coach come in and work harder than he ever has to bring Clemson FB up with the front runners of college FB, and he knew that it would be imposable without those 4 and 5 star recruits that Clemson wasn't accustomed to bringing into our FB program. Dabo worked hard and brought in coaches that knew the value of having those types of players to get to the top. It has nothing to do with being spoiled, it has to do with the Clemson fan base seeing that the right coaching and hard work can bring their FB program to the top and they want to see that done every year bc they can't ever be told anymore that it can't be done at little ole Clemson that sets in the corner of nowhere as the excuses were before Dabo Swinney!!!

but it does affect how I feel about Dabo.
I'm a bigger fan and have been a fan longer of Clemson than Dabo ever could be.

And unfortunately, Dabo has become arrogant and inflexible. Hopefully he sees his mistakes and corrects course.

Every year poor performance on field is excused away by “we’ll know more in a couple years”.
Just ignoring to real problem(s)

Swinney will have to hit "rock-bottom" just like he was on his out the door before he hired Chad Morris and Brent Venables. If Clemson ends up either BG10 or SEC Clemson will be sucking hind-tit ( mid-to-bottom rung ) with Swinney's present philosophy and hiring practices especially offensive side of ball. Where I was employed for 33 yrs either you adapted to change or you basically fired you ownself. Company's past success was irrelevant, to maintain success we hired the best all the time to stay top dog.

Additionally there are only 32 five star players each year. That’s less than 1/4 (player) per team.
Only 6 of the top 20 teams (247 Rankings) have at least one 5 star committed.
Keep expectations realistic… there will be a lot of moving and shaking by early signing day.
Stars don’t guarantee success but are the best indicator available for anticipating success.

with a subtle continuous spin throughout. A sweet spot in the timeline to release a sanctimonious diatribe or a preamble to excuse possible signing day woes or mishaps that may occur during the season-

The days of getting excited for 4* recruits were the days we got very few and our head coach was Tommy Bowden. You want to go back to those days? No.
