Yet another game if we

kick the short field goal on 4th down instead of going for it and getting stopped we are two scores ahead and there is no need for this late game drama. It happened against GA, Ga. Tech and against Louisville. And I'm sure it's happened at least one more time but I can't think of the team.

Well, please address your concerns to Mr. Tony Elliott. He might be able to add those suggestions to his already hard to understand playbook.

Actually going for it in 4th is a head coaches decision.

I agree in more of a spread formation we can run the ball pretty well. In an obvious run where we need short yardage we get no push and get stuffed. Examples of our late possession drive and our 4th from the one

the problem I had was execution....
They could screw up whatever play was called if the execution was not there ....
Mafah did not follow his lead blocker and the left guard did not hold his block .... that d lineman influenced the play with penetration.
No guarantee it would have scored but he was short by 6 inches without the lead blocker who ended up in the end zone ....
On the play scheme, there was a lot of space between the back and the lead blocker and the lead blocker and the line .... ie it was not a quick hitter, allowed penetration on the left side of the line. But the lead blocker and back had a head of stem going into the line...
To the talking point of take the points or go for the jugular... could be debated forever... we score and there is no discussion on the play, won't see people praising the play call here for sure...
The call was fine...

I would have spread them out too, then quick snap with DJ under center and the big boys pushing from behind. Ole fashioned scrum. He's 250 lbs.
If you do bunch it like that then let ship beat them to the edge. I hear what you're saying but Dabo runs that same left side short yardage play every time. Pitt shootout? I sure would like to know what Tony had drawn up.

no debate there, but the play would have worked if it was executed...
we had one spread to the left and everyone else in...
to your point less people in the box but those guys that would have gone out to cover the spread offense were not the ones who clogged up the middle they sold out and Mafah ran right into it thru the B Gap... he follows 33 and he is more likely in the end zone...
We did not win the push on that play... the line of scrimmage was neutral...
Screen shot along the line of scrimmage, if he followed 33 he had a seem. Allen had the block on 14 (who slipped) he let up by the time this was taken just wanted to show where the seam was.
Mafah hopefully gets a better sense of this over time.

It's just a shame we got no points off of Shipley's 75 yard kick return. Because we went fir it on 4th down and didn't get it. Not to mention we have those 3 points the game us out of reach.

I thought going for it was the right decision

At least it would be for any team with a somewhat competent offense. You don't win many close games kicking FGs from the 1. You only need to convert half of them to come out ahead.

what happened to the rule:you don't take points off the board, especially with nearly 9 minutes to go in the third Q.

Nothing wrong with the play or decision. Like most plays in football it is a matter of execution.

correct. Had one play with Shipley on a shallow crosser. He’s still running except for one missed block.

Or, how about being a bit more aggressive after the previous stop (Makuba tremendous). Three straight runs up the middle, Louisville stops the clock, we get three, and Louisville still in the game. Similar play calling at the end contributed to the ND loss last year.

Gotta love our TNet “leftie”...

he’s deep in the bunker on many issues & statements he doesn’t align with which is a right and makes it interesting..but interesting to see he has 8 followers (moi being one) while he has 16 that have cut him off!
LOL, it’s good to be back since watching paint dry was getting to be too much these last 12 months even though I’m gonna waste too many hours a month here when I could be napping or wishing I was out boating.
GoTiGERs!

Way to Monday Morning QB, #######.
Go back in time and let the coaches know before they have to run the play.

I'm just saying it's a legitimate concern. Several times this year we have went for it on 4th down and not gotten the first down. It's made games come down to the wire. When it didn't have to be that way if we just kick the short FG and put the points on the board.
