“After all they want through to get here” is what he said about OSU. What did they go through? He’s literally crying.
I was a Kirk fan for years but the past 2 months of his comments and behavior…done. He’s not who he was.

Every upper level college football team went through a lot of money. It’s just that the professional athletes employed by Ohio State played much better than the professional athletes employed by other universities. Ohio State got who they wanted this year and those professional athletes performed at a high enough level to win the national championship. Just like ours did in 2016 and 2018. I’m going to assume that the Power Rangers and others were given some financial consideration for staying an extra year in 2018..

Losing to Michigan and the fan base turning on Ryan Day. I really don't understand the Herbie hate from you people. Jealousy is cruel tho.

That’s like crying for Clemson to get to play Texas because we lost to the Coots.

He is right though. I'm guessing most of those games were against OSU or Bama. If you think ND and OSU do not have a bigger national fan base than Clemson does you are out of ur mind.

The SEC may regret
1
Jan 22, 2025, 5:54 AM
|

The SEC may regret bringing all of this college football money out into the open as it hurts their competitive advantage. The SEC schools have done better when everything was under the table. They excelled at slimy post game handshakes, booster provided cars, and money funneled through uncles, preachers, and coaches, etc.
When everything gets sanctioned, everything is legal, and it’s all about money, those AAU schools in the Big Ten will be able to bring the full brunt of their administrative power to bear. All of the Big Ten schools are better at getting research grants, federal money, as well as alumni fundraising than any of the SEC schools, not named Texas or Vanderbilt.
Whoever wins the national championship in college football now is going to have to spend a lot of money and they’re going to have to make sure that their five star professional athletes perform better than the five star professional athletes playing for other universities.
In 2018, Trevor Lawrence had to play better than Tua. Justin Ross played better than the Alabama receivers. AJ Terrell played better than Alabama defensive backs.
In today’s world, the way that money is being spent to pay for players is simply more amenable to these big wealthy Midwestern and West Coast universities. Their university presidents are more likely to push the spend button if they know their are no consequences to paying players.

Clemson fan base and national appeal is smaller than Alabama, Michigan, Ohio state, etc.
That’s not a criticism of Clemson, it’s reality.

But that's not all he said. He said you don't want "small little Clemson" in the game if you are cheering for high ratings.
That's not reality...as shown in the link above. 4 of the top 10 rated CFP/NY6 games ever featured Clemson as one of the teams.

be like crying when the Dodgers won the W.S. with a payroll 3x higher than just about every team and talking about how much they had to overcome as opposed to everyone else.
Usually, unless your ran by just absolute total incompetent folks, the team that spends the most money on talent wins.
It’s what makes programs like Texas A@M so embarrassing

I used to like listening to Herbie and Fowler. Now, not so much. Here is my latest game plan when watching College football games:
1. Turn volume WAY down. I don’t mute so the rest of the crowd can still hear.
2. Take out the hearing aids

them like you're supposed to instead. The only people I blame for USuC beating Clemson is the players on teh field and the coaches on the sidelines. It hasn't been some big master plan by the NCAA or the NIL to give Clemson the loss against those losers. ITs our fault.

We just had a champion that lost to a bad Michigan team, and lost to Oregon, and has crying Day as their coach....Kirk is making up things to make his tears have meaning when they really don't, except to spit in the face of all those who wanted Day gone after the Michigan game. Yesterday stinks, OSU stinks, but they won and are champions no matter how much I dislike it.
Time for Clemson to climb back to the top in 2025!!

I can remember a time when broadcasters
1
Jan 22, 2025, 10:05 AM
[ in reply to Re: What the f is Herbstreit crying about ] |
|
-- even sports broadcasters -- were professionals who remembered always that what's going on in one's personal life should never, never, never bleed into the on-air product.
Because we all have problems and challenges. We all hurt and struggle in various ways. Professionals understand and respect that the guy watching on his sofa might also have a wife who is fighting cancer, or has lost his job, or both. And unlike the broadcaster, doesn't have a seven-figure contract to fall back on.
It's why dudes like Herbstreit start losing that tenuous connection with their audience -- they start making it about them. They become the story -- and that's the first rule of broadcasting -- YOU are NOT the story.
Because in the end, there is a very fine, almost imperceptible line between connecting with the audience (which is incredibly hard to do), and losing/turning-off the audience (which is not so hard to do).
