We used to have a nationally ranked Ultimate Frisbee team as well, back in the day. Sports like these aren't governed by the athletic department and get no AD funding, though they may get some funding from the university's pool of Student Club money.

sure we can put together a pretty good team now. Hockey has gotten very popular down here in Charleston over the past 20+ years that we've had the Stingrays. Lots of kids play now.

My wife and I just started playing co-ed hockey through our parks and rec department and it's a blast. Being from Pendleton I had never so much as ice skated but I'm still having fun learning. Now I wish I had played growing up.

Me how to play! Being from Easley, I would go ice skating once per year of if I was lucky.
Now I play in a Men's League every Thursday night. Hockey is a riot! I wish had played when I was younger. Best workout ever. I can truly appreciated what those NHL guys can do.

Hockey is awesome, and you could argue it has the best playoffs to watch out of any of the major sports...but something about seeing Clemson Hockey feels...wrong.

in Vermont, he took me to see the University of Vermont play, and I enjoyed the live action much better than TV.
Fast forward, and I took my youngest grandson quite a few times to see the Columbia Inferno play at the old Carolina Coliseum, and we always had a great time. The first time (after he expressed boredom) I sent him to stand behind one of the plexiglass panels and after a body slam against it, he was sold on the sport.
Unfortunately, a rift between the club and the Carolina powers-that-be sent the franchise to an obscure venue, and that along with a lack of greater community support doomed its existence. In the Columbia area the saying goes, "If you ain't affiliated with the university, you ain't gonna survive."
