Men's tennis hosting #50 Miami Thursday at 1 pm

Men's tennis returns to action after a full 11 days without a match against #50 Miami. This is our first match against an ACC team who is this ranking range and is one we really need to win.

Miami record breakdown: 10-8, 2-5 in ACC. Best win: 4-3 over #24 North Carolina, worst loss: 4-3 to #58 Virginia Tech.

Miami Analysis: Miami has been hurt by injuries and have had to play the last few matches compromised with only 5 players. They fielded only 5 players in a few ACC matches recently, meaning that they started the match with an automatic forfeit of #3 doubles and #6 singles. Despite that, they were still able to somehow shock #24 UNC a couple of weeks ago, which is the only reason why their ranking is boosted to #50.

This past weekend in losses to UVA and VT, they used Arraya at #6 instead of forfeiting that court. But it appears as though he is an emergency addition from the club team as he was just added to the roster on the website and lost 6-0 6-0 in his match vs VT.

Simply put, this is a match that we absolutely must win, especially with Miami compromised at #6. Our ranking is close to getting back into the top 75 thanks to the SMU winning gaining strength as they are up to #41 in the rankings. A win here would probably put us around #60 and keep faint NCAA tournament hopes alive with the more winnable part of the ACC slate coming up with matches vs #52 Notre Dame, #58 Virginia Tech and #38 Louisville in the next two weeks.
