I have never really understood it - one pays for a ticket to watch a game in person. And, yet, they put up a huge screen so that the game can be viewed from it. Yes, maybe for replays, but does that justify such a large screen and millions of dollars?????????? Just got to outdo other schools!!

You never heard that.
The video board has nothing to do with any concerts in DV. They set up the stage on the west side opposite the board and bring all their own staging, lighting, etc. They would never want their show to be dependent on any particular stadium setup. Their show will look exactly the same no matter where they are playing.
Besides, the board in 94 was similar to everyone else at the time…postage stamp sized compared to today.

year and sat in the w zone opposite of their board. Found myself looking at it more than the game. It’s just hard not to see it and I think ours is bigger?

are about the same size.
The Texas A&M scoreboard that sits on top of their South end zone upper deck is the largest in college football measuring 47' high and 163' wide
Clemson's is 57' high and 126' wide.

At the ACC champs games, I watched most of the games on the board. With my seats in the stratosphere, I could see the action much better.

50% of the ""ticket buyers"" are playing on their smart phones anyway - they want even notice the new scoreboard till' about mid-season*****
