that point 3 on enforcement is interesting. I will believe it when I see it. It makes me think of this ankle monitor approach for criminals where no one does their job and they go out to do worse while monitored.

and Clemson were pioneers in the NIL field when it first came into being in 2020 with the creation of an in-house media/branding lab, which has since expanded department wide for all sports and is a model program in the industry. With a fixed amount available considering we can't just #### money when it pleases you, Dabo has chosen to invest what's needed in keeping our developed talent here as opposed to blowing our wad on bidding wars for HS recruits or transfers. With barely a Top 25 overall program budget, Dabo continues to do more with less as he's done every year since he arrived. He could be the highest paid coach and still the best head coaching value in the game based on his consistent results.

Agree with 74tiger. Point 3 will be interesting because it's supposed to be enforcement now.

Also, will it be public knowledge on who's getting what? Hope it works because this is the new norm. I love the fact that soccer and baseball, other sports get more full schollys. Long overdue.

But does this "cap " mean an athlete cannot go out and make additional money from their nil?

It is my understanding that Deloitte will be used as the company who will be monitoring it. A clearinghouse so to speak for all of College Football.

It has to be a true image and likeness. This is the last year NIL can just pay to play. Starting July 1 everything has to be above board since they are getting paid by schools.

effect until the rules are officially altered. Also I think we need to consider this, we're going to spend a boatload of NIL $$ on retaining guys this year. Just off the top of my head: Cade, Antonio, Wesco, Moore, Woods, Terrell, Woodaz, Shepherd, Parker, Tre Williams, Barnes, Sammy. I also believe Capehart returns with his draft status severely hurt by injuries, and he'll cost, as would guys like Leigh, Miller, Parks, Linthicum.

I think we use our money to retain the bulk of our roster this year, as all of those guys are tampering candidates. Question to me is, not this recruiting class, which we knew from the beginning would be small, but whether we finally pay the price for a few portal guys to push this roster into true contention next year? If there is any year for this to happen, this is the year.

If we retain all of our key guys, we are loaded going into next year, and 2-3 key transfers benefits us far more than 2-3 freshmen

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Capehart has exhausted his eligibility***

I think he's gone. He's a redshirt senior. I thought 19 or 20 was our target class this year. At least that's what Dabo had listed for number of positions.

110 Society was also said to "position Clemson for the future" and it's positioned us at 30th in recruiting.

Until Clemson or Dabo comes out and says "with your help and NIL donations we will aggressively recruit the portal and top HS talent" not very many normal donors or fans are going to waste and throw their money at the status quo when the program has yet to prove that they are willing to go out and get an impactful roster piece.

This is yet again just more fluff in my opinion. Not only do they not prove it with their actions, they won't even prove it with their words.

Annual NIL fundraising may not be sustainable if the return on investment isn't felt. Are you going to have a $6 million match gift every year? Not likely. It will be interesting to see if IPTAY's "goals" will shrink to allow head way to shift dollars to the 110 society.

I guess I missed the zoom call notification. I will have to go back and scan through my IPTAY emails. I noticed it was not in the latest Orange Update email yesterday. Anyway..

This press release did not really tell me anything new. It did make me more concerned that we are adding another level of bureaucracy "front office" to the football program. So I am guessing that is a VP level/ salary position plus 2 staff positions/ assistants and another administrative secretary. So probably another $750k in salary not counting benefits etc., and probably another 500k in operating budget. So likely 1.5 million to administer revenue that was already accounted for in the program to begin with (20 million in revenue sharing is not "new" money). Hopefully some folks inside the department are going to be retasked or rebranded. But I doubt it.

But the elephant to me in the room is the 20 million. Having the "collective money" now count toward IPTAY, is just a green light to raise the seat equity level. Season ticket prices are also going up.

So my prediction is that we will not hear anything until after this weekend's results. If Clemson wins, and Syracuse beats Miami, they may take advantage of that positive news to roll out a more aggressive price increase (I estimate Seat Equity is going up 15%). If we lose, I bet the announcement is delayed and we find out 2 weeks later that they are going to raise it by 8%, annually for the next 3 years. Because they want to be mindful of inflation and hard economic times.

College sports is the craziest business I have ever seen. If you can get on a major program and have marginal success, the pay and perks are phenomenal.

Make it where these kids can earn good money but all QBs get up to $X, all WRs get up to $X, all OL get up to $X, all DL get up to $X and so on. Then have the schools set a "bonus"pay" if they reach a certain target throughout the yr or reach the CFP or win a bowl game. Give incentives just like the coaches get. These $10M checks for a high school QB who has never stepped foot on a CFB field suited up is ridiculous and not sustainable for anyone. I'm glad Clemson is trying to compete but it's just not ever gonna be able to hang with USC, UGA, Bama, OSU, Mich, Miami, ect in terms of money not to mention all these smaller schools.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think these changes are necessary to compete at the highest level AND be committed to having a top educational experience.

I never felt like they had to be mutually exclusive. I mean you have NFL pros coming back to finish their degrees. It's a smart thing to make your money AND get a quality education.

I think this is what will ultimately separate Clemson from the pack when the dust settles on this new era of college (pro w/ college) football.

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So, the NFL.

1. Paid athletes, not student athletes.
2. Revenue sharing defined by a set of agreed upon standards, not actual performance.
3. A player's association with collective bargaining and enforcement power. Because it's the players who stand to lose when NIL is abused, not the schools (or brands -- what do we even call these teams anymore?)

Ok. If those are the rules, then I'd say Clemson is in a good position, given Clemson's ability to generate quite a bit of local revenue, and the value of the Clemson brand, which translates into a robust merchandising/licensing rev stream.

Not to mention, Clemson's principled stance on the portal and NIL which, at the core, is geared to serve the players and their families, not the greed/avarice/win-at-all-costs mindsets of a few well-heeled donors and bandwagon fans.

And many of y'all think Dabo Swinney isn't worth his salary?

Stand back and watch.

So can the schools raise the $20.5 million by “selling” their name, image, and likeness? Could Michelin or Millikan cough up some money and get to use Clemson images as they see fit? I’m not suggesting we rename Memorial Stadium, but just allow a business sponsor to associate themselves with Clemson football for a fee.

110 society dollars go to iptay prioirity points. I am all for a free market society but there are very few individuals who can compete with corporate donors. The days of regular people being able to afford to go to all home games are coming to an end. It was inevitable I guess.

Isn’t IPTAY priority points pretty minor compared to the actual giving levels? This sounds like a fringe benefit type deal because IPTAY still can’t take the donations and redirect to the collective. That’s the real game changer that’s needed to generate a consistent $12-15M annually of 3rd party NIL above and beyond the revenue share dollars allocated to football. All revenue sharing is creating is a new floor for player compensation. The blue bloods are still going to collect massive amounts from their boosters to flip HS recruits and bid up transfers in the portal.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

for now it is , this will be the first salvo in eventually moving the iptay
