It’s our own fault as we should never retire a number, only the jersey. If you truly retired the number, it should never be used but that would be a mistake for obvious reasons

The Fridge wore Banks McFadden's number...because someone else already had his 72 number when he arrived as a freshman...and because 66 hadn't been retired yet. He went back to 72 though with the Bears.

Totally agree!! That was one of the worst PR moves ever for Clemson athletics. I am against the retiring of numbers anyway. I think it is silly! However, if you do the dumb retiring thing........don't un-retire the number as needed on down the road. That is even sillier!

Knowing that there is a high probability that neither Dabo nor CJ wanted that kid to wear that number for another year at Clemson.
Folks get all torn up about players leaving and recruits' decommitments but the fact is that Dabo along with no other at our program are going to raise a stink about bad grades, bad behavior or trouble makers.
I'm not saying that's the reason, only that it consoles me to know when someone leave or decommits we might be better off. I thing the old folks use to say, 'Careful what you pray for...'
