WVU to the ACC ? (THE West Virginia University) and ...

This is important. How does the ACC compete ? The answer is simple:
- ACC grabs WVU (West Virginia University). Natural rivalries with VaTech, Pitt and will give Louisville someone to hang around with (Kentucky and West Virginia States border). One could argue that West Virginia should rejoin Virginia and the whole leaving thing in 1863 was silly.
- Notre Dame becomes a FULL TIME member of the ACC, this includes FOOTBALL. Never mind this ND football is holier then thou and they are "special" and they got a TV contract with NBC. They will never become truly relevant until they join a Conference. Right now they have this "I belong to a Country Club so therefore a am better than you, see my leased BMW ?" mentality.
- ACC grabs Penn State, that "we are" school. Again, Natural rivalry with Pitt, nay VaTech. Penn State is kinda dangling out there ... much like Maryland, Rutgers ? How did Rutgers end up in the Big 10. ? Actually Maryland is doing pretty good in the B10 but really belong in the ACC. Maryland's campus needs to move though.
- Last but not least, ACC should grab Navy. Yes, Navy. Now. one could beseech that Navy is a "service" academy and will never compete. I disagree. Navy is all about boats and its in a pretty place and they draw sort of a boaty crowd. Lots of people want to go to Navy cause then you can end of on a boat, fly a fighter jet or jets then get a job with the airlines or become a Marine which overall, is the best light Infantry in the World. Marines actually look they are having fun even though real serious acting all the time. I always liked hanging out with Marines. Oh yeah, if a Service Academy guy/girl/they gets a Pro Contract they can serve their obligation in the Reserves. NOTHING is a greater advertisement for the military then having guys/gals/theys play in the Pros. Here comes the 19th century mentality rebuttal's ... oh puleeeeeeeesa !

There are definitely ways to right the ship in the ACC’s favor but not sure what lie you would have to tell to get a ND and a PennState to get them to take a huge step backwards in the eventual hope that it will move them forward financially.

Why would Penn State even pretend to consider leaving the BIG? Here is a hint: they wouldnt. And along those same lines, why would ND join when the BIG is on the table? As for WV and Navy....talk pointless adds....would be subtract by addition.
There is no putting the genie back in the bottle. The ACC is on borrowed time and there is no way to save it and stay relevant in college football now.

Spot on. It's all about being relavent currently or being steeped in tradition. There are only two teams left that fit that ND and Oregon.
The SEC realized it and the B1G realized it too. The recent move didn't happen overnight. Just so happened SEC was first to do it. ACC had zero bargaining power once gor was locked in.

Lately, personally, I have grown disenchanted with the ACC. Long time ago my mentality was who want to leave the ACC ? Prestigious schools, good sports, etc. But now, the ACC has changed, for one, it’s boring. There are FINE schools in the SEC, prestigious. Florida, Vanderbilt and now Texas, et al ? I pity the fool who would not want to be associated with that group.

Wouldn't surprise me to see UVA, ND, VT, Pitt, BC, and Syracuse, leave joyfully to the Big 10.

I don’t think Pitt, BC and Syracuse will get invites.
Pitt probably has the best chance, good in football and an AAU school, but its also in a pro-sports town and Penn State will probably try like hell to keep them out.
Syracuse is not AAU and I’m not sure they bring enough to get in. Same with BC. I think their only hope is join the new BigXII/Pac-12 merger. Which, btw, if Duke doesn’t get into the B1G, and I doubt they will, then you could see Syracuse, Duke, Kansas, Oklahoma State and Baylor in the same basketball league.
Which will make for a pretty impressive basketball league…

I’m sorry, have you been reading the news? Everyone is past trying to compete and are instead trying to find a seat at the table. Joining a league that has a GOR agreements locking them down until 2036 would be suicide and they know it.

I don’t think ESPN will be able to for fill the contract to the ACC or the SEC, in my opinion.

You forget they own casinos and that is where this is all heading. A Jr League to the NFL with as many markets watching as possible and gambling of course. No more playing bowling green, all games matter and people will tune in that aren’t from the South or Mid West

Adding WVU is like adding a flush handle to an outdoor toilet.

There is no way out for the ACC in regards to being competitive with what the others conferences are doing. They're late to the game. They've been playing from behind all along and now it's check mate. I would suggest once Clemson and possibly others exit they aggressively pursue some BIGEast , PAC12 and Big12 basketball powerhouses ( and there are a slew of them ) and form the nations first basketball super - conference
