..when I was stationed at NAS Lemoore, in the 80's, we had nightly training involving helos, A-4, A-7 and F/A-18s, but none of them did what these drones are doing, seemingly "for the fun of it". But, like you said, who knows?

The fun of it comment wasn't directed towards the US military. It was meant that it could be a drone club as I wrote. The reasons are far more likely to be home-grown than some foreign government that people want to freak out about or aliens they want to freak out about. The secrecy to an extent makes me think something official is happening. Who knows?

Also, maybe there is a club of drone flyers having fun? You would think if it were a foreign government they would be shot down. Seems like the US government though. Who knows? As usual, there is probably a simple reason for it and not some conspiracy or something nefarious that we need to be scared about.

We'd have shot down half of them at least by now. And I don't mean the gubmint either, but locals.
It would go like this....
180 drones fly over Charleston. Makes news. Jethro and his boys from Ravenel take a field trip, and bag 20 drones the first night. Jethro tells his buddies and second night 125 people from Ravenel, Adams Run, Cottageville, Huger, etc. all show up. By the third night there are 50 drones. 5,000 people show up for the fourth night, and they down the rest, and just like that, drone season is over. 27 deer lives have been saved in the process.

LOL. That is the absolute truth. I actually thought about that last night. If I saw a drone overhead, I would definitely limber up the AR 15 with a 30 round mag and my neighbor's roof be ######.
His trees got my roof from Helene, so a little payback and intelligence gathering on behalf of our great nation would be satisfying.

What you aren't taking into account is that these are alien drones and our bullets don't hurt them. I have seen it many of times in movies and that is the obvious explanation.
