We are supposed to have the real deal in our redshirt freshman TE Christian Bentancur, but until he learns to play the TE position at the college level, Jake will be missed like a missing eye. But we have Patt-Henry that is starting to come around, I hope that his development continues to get better...

He may be our all time leading TE, but I still think he wasn't used enough. JMO

He never blocked anyone. Good TE catching the ball but that’s it.

If he was underutilized, Davis Allen was waaaaay underutilized. Davis was an excellent pass catcher, and as per his role with the Rams, and outstanding blocker.

We were the 11th ranked offense in America and used all of our receivers well.

Jake was 2nd in total receptions. What benefits would we have gotten if we focused even more on the TE?

Not this season, but the season before, I saw the need even more. Anyway, I am a big fan of using the TE more. The TE is always such a good escape valve.

Theres only one football and we spread it around.

Nothing wrong with TE utilization. The other poster said we didn’t use him enough, but obviously being 2nd in receptions cancels that comment.

He has looked great in the drills and the scrimmage***

Nothing special about that route. The defender guessed wrong and Briningstool took advantage of it.

Briningstool took a slight outside line and the defender shaded to the outside (his mistake), which allowed Briningstool to feint further outside and break inside which opened up separation because the defender couldn't recover fast enough.

It's a standard route for a WR or TE - one that Briningstool ran well, but helped by the defender guessing (incorrectly) which way Briningstool was going to break.

Many good CBs will use the sideline as an extra defender and try to work the receiver onto the out-of-bounds line, while protecting the inside. This one maybe learned a lesson.

Yep, my WOW response was dripping with sarcasm!***

Disagree. Jake is 66, 240lbs. Thats good footwork for a TE.***

Patt Henry will be a star at te this year. When i saw him play in the limited snaps he was able to get down the field and get open. He has very soft hands....no Diddy....for a guy his size. Secondly his blocking is above average. Am I on to something or am I just out of my mind....

It’s no coincidence that he was in during short yardage because he could block. He does catch the ball well and so now we aren’t waving a giant flag saying “we’re running the ball” when he’s on the field vs Brinny. Brinny was a baller, but essentially a big wr vs a te. I actually think you’ll see us in some full 5wr configs this year with brown back healthy (Brown, TJ, AW, Wesco, Turner). I also think Bettancour will be an emerging star.

I'd like to see some 5-receiver sets as well, but only if Luke can get the OL ready to pass-protect well enough to allow 5 receivers.
