The NCAA and their unwillingness to change is more to blame than anyone else IMO.

Not long ago you could literally go onto the NCAAs merchandise shop, type in a players name, and that player's jersey would pop up for sale. The player could receive absolutely no compensation for this lest they become ineligible - all of the money went to NCAA, universities, and their licensing partners.

THAT'S the kind of stuff that led us to where we are today. The current system sucks, but the NCAA never tried to deal with this and never did anything proactive. All they did was hire lawyers to kick the can down the road and delay the inevitable as long as possible. When they inevitably lost there was absolutely no plan, no guardrails in place, no soft landing, just pure chaos.
