Would you rather make BIG $$ or win more games & titles?

May 19, 2012, 12:32 PM

That is the question each and every Tiger fan needs to answer to with a reality check...if we were to go to SEC or BIG XII, then I see our chances of being a legitimate football power greatly diminished. That, my T-net comrades, is the real situation we are facing.

There is a relationship here.***

Its a sad day when...

May 19, 2012, 12:36 PM

sports fans sit around and brag about how much money their team makes.

Not to mention dropping long standing relationships and rivalries with schools in the region to chase money somewhere else.

I agree but I think if we don't change with the landscape of college football we will go down a dark path that will take many years to recover from. Look what happened when from firing Danny in 1990. We still have not recovered. I think this crossroad is bigger than the one we faced in 1990.

Re: Would you rather make BIG $$ or win more games & titles?

May 19, 2012, 12:37 PM

You have to also ask yourself how important it is to make an "extinction event" impossible for your football program. You can stay in the ACC and win more champsionships, but what if there is a 5% chance the Big12, B1G, PAC12 and SEC break away in 10 years and create their own tournament away from the NCAA...is it worth that risk? These decisions are going to affect these programs for decades (or more) to come, and the number one goal shouldn't be money or championships, it should be ensuring the security and survival of a nationally relevant football program.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

agree, just leave out the "nationally relevant" part

May 19, 2012, 5:27 PM

just sayin

not until you refer to your team as "CHEATIN' CHICKENS"

I disagree. An ACC title will now equal an FCS title

May 19, 2012, 12:38 PM

Without being in The Big-12, Clemson has no chance at a meaningful bowl or title. We will be like the chickens were in their Metro conference days, when they were beaten by Citidel. Do you want that?

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm just going to sit back and relax and trust my school on

May 19, 2012, 12:41 PM

this. Whether that's a good thing or bad thing that's really all I can do. Unfortunately no one knows all the true facts of what goes on in the ACC, how strong the conference actually is internally. No one knows exactly every aspect of the money situation within the conference and the school. How much of an influence it is on us staying or leaving. How much we stand to gain if we go. How much we stand to lose if we leave. All people on the outside can do is simply speculate.

Personally I can't make an educated decision on speculation. I need more facts, I need more numbers. Unfortunately I'll never get those. Instead I'm going to have to lean on the people who do and that's our administration. I trust they'll do what's best for our university and fans and I'll support what ever decision they come up with.

What was your opinion on the possibility of A&M and Mizzou to the SEC, West Virginia and TCU to the Big 12, Boise to the Big East, and a 4 team playoff about three years ago?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Good theory, but MANY here don't trust Barker & TDP or BOT

May 19, 2012, 5:23 PM [ in reply to I'm just going to sit back and relax and trust my school on ]

I am one of them that wish somehow or way there was full disclosure on 'what is really going on' around the table.

I trust none of the above until I see some positive actions

Re: Would you rather make BIG $$ or win more games & titles?

May 19, 2012, 12:47 PM

the REAL situation we are facing is that the dirty c$$ts are taking in more than $20 mil+ more than us every year and this will only increase if we don`t do something NOW! O, and they are using that $$$ and their lack of ethics and no academic requirements to kick our arses every year!!How long are U prepared to let this happen until Clemson does something??

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We can't be considered a legit football power unless

May 19, 2012, 12:56 PM

we 're as good as the SEC. It is the gold standard.

Re: We can't be considered a legit football power unless

May 19, 2012, 1:06 PM

We are as good as most of the teams in the sec. What do you mean as good as the sec? The sec is top heavy with a couple of dominant programs. We are not currently as good as LSU or Alabama, but they are not the sec. The sec has Vandy, KY and they are not the sec, either.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

More money in a better conference where wins mean more.

May 19, 2012, 1:09 PM

It's pathetic and embarrassing that fans would rather stay in a crap conference that is clearly focused on basketball so that you can win more "gimme" games. I would rather play in a tougher conference and have wins mean something than get 70 hung on me on the big stage b/c we weren't prepared due to the level of competition we play week in and week out. The ACC is the laughing stock of college football, that is a reality check. I think our chances of being a power would be greater due to the fact that recruiting would get even better and we would play tougher competition that only makes you better as well.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The ACC is a laughingstock chiefly because...

May 19, 2012, 2:14 PM

its football-oriented schools (FSU, Miami, Va Tech, Clemson, and perhaps Ga Tech) have all dropped the ball on the field for almost a decade. The league has no true national contenders and is therefore finding it difficult to negotiate lucrative TV deals.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: The ACC is a laughingstock chiefly because...

May 19, 2012, 2:17 PM

U R right.. but the very weak ACC schools like Wake and Duke hurt also.. the lack of fan support hurts badly

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'd rather make Big $$$, which will help us win more

meaningful titles.

Re: Would you rather make BIG $$ or win more games & titles?

May 19, 2012, 1:13 PM

I agree...we wouldn't be as nearly as successful

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

your games and titles will be meaningless and as

May 19, 2012, 2:13 PM

that becomes more obvious, the recruiting will drop off and you will not even be winning games in the minor leagues. If you don't have enough belief that you can compete in the SEC or Big12 at least as well as South Carolina, Arkansas, Auburn, Kentucky, Georgia, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Missouri, Texas AM, 5 of which we have beaten the last time we played them (Missouri, Tex Am, Tennessee, Kentucky, Auburn,) and South Carolina we have historically dominated, not to mention how we would stand up against Mississippi, Miss State, Vandy.

Or do you not believe we could compete as well as TCU, Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, FSU, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State.

If you don't believe we could compete or that you would just enjoy being in the major discussion, then we should just drop to 1-AA or FCS as they say. Furman, Wofford, Clemson, Citadel, Wake Forest, Duke.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If the wins are against the sisters of the poor

May 19, 2012, 2:26 PM

its meaningless. You guys are so short sighted its incredible. Yea we might suck a while in a new league against top talent but it WILL makes us better and eventually we would be right at the top with the best of them. So we stay where we are and win junior trophies or we progress and stay in the national picture. You guys want to turn us in to east carolina...unbelievable. Can you not see the big picture here?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We can't do both?

May 19, 2012, 2:43 PM

Some of you guys amaze me. WE CANNOT COMPETE FINANCIALLY WITH SCAR AND OTHER REGIONAL COMPETITION BY REMAINING IN THE ACC. It's that simple. The money gap is too large.

Look, we are clearly on the upswing. This is not a SCAR / SEC 1992 scenario. We can compete in the Big XII now and possibly make in the neighborhood of $10 million or more per year in the process. In addition, we will face better competition week-to-week, and this in itself will make us better on the field. If winning games/titles were the only issue, we would be negotiating with Conference USA! Heck, while we're at it, why don't we just move to the Big South or to the SoCon!

If we sit idly by until the music stops, FSU will be gone, VT will be gone, and GT and Miami will be negotiating with the Big XII instead of us. The Big XII and the SEC are already developing the type of symbiotic relationship that the SEC and ACC used to have. In the future there will be no more SEC/ACC kickoff classics or bowl agreements - that's happening NOW. Can you imagine a scenario in which Clemson is the only remaining football-centric school left, and every home game is a nooner against the likes of Wake, BC, NCSU, etc., with the upper decks completely empty? That is the death of a program by suicide, and it wouldn't be unlikely with what's brewing now.

Wake up sleepyheads.

We are now, by our reactions, admitting what we didn't admit

May 19, 2012, 2:44 PM

5 months ago. Yes, we won the ACC championship. But even after doing that, we took a backseat to SCar, who came in 5th in their conference. Yet, by them finishing in the Top 10 while we finished outside the Top 20, they got more national respect than we did. Playing and winning in a tough conference like the SEC, does that for you. And, by the way, I think losing to the coots explains why Dabo has not gotten a contract extension.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They had a better record and did not give up 70 in a bowl.

May 19, 2012, 2:46 PM

We lost 4 of our last 6 and were blown out in each of those losses. That has nothing to do with the SEC.
