Continual with the Wes is gone all while the offense does its best to NOT play aggressive offense simply tuck tail with 3 and outs…over and over.
Wes defense held SMU to 7 points in a half. All while the offense actually ran plays to try and get yards downfield. 2nd half not the same. Offense tightens up, goes plain, and defense is kept on field too much.
Maybe some things can be better, completely agree. But offense cannot go lame and stop playing scared and not aggressive. It’s hurt Clemson this year against Coots and almost again last night.

He has continually shown through his 3 seasons that he is unable to successfully counter adjustments made by opposing offenses.

Rijey adjusted to the “stop trying to score” method which lost the game to the Coots… and you know that already

Yep they did… and also Riley offense did Jack crap in 4th quarter. Against a bad defensive secondary. Both are true, correct ???
Offense stopped and just left the defense out to dry….of course offense got it going for 1 play and FG unit came through with awesome kick.

That’s the point…he can’t adapt to the opposing teams halftime adjustments at all. I mean part of that 7 point first half was SMU shooting themselves in the foot, but he was able to create pressure on the qb in the first half. He just couldn’t make the adjustments he needed in the second half. It wasn’t just this game…it’s becoming a pattern with him

Recognize that the defenses in our championship seasons GREATLY benefitted from an offense that kept scoring. It wasn’t this “lame duck” crud we see now.
Wes is probably sick of Riley going stale as much as I am. It hurts the defense because they are the title entirely too much and trying to strip good offenses requires your own offense to perform at high level.
When will CDS and others understand this ??? This team can be so much better without training wheels put on them at times by our staff.

Offense should have scored more in the 2nd half. We were playing a top 5 scoring offense. The D didn't play horrible.

All this hate for Wes needs to be trashed.
Riley has not done anything against a good team with a physical defense. His first shot was Georgia while he was at TCU. He got annihilated
At Clemson I have seen a Georgia game, Clemson offense did nothing at all. Coots, again offense could not get it done and hung an expectation of shutting down Sellers. Well they did for 58+ minutes.
Riley is not any better and I’d say a worse coordinator who is in over his head with Clemson. He is not a top level coach yet, and neither is Goodwin but they are putting in the time and effort. They’ve got 12 days to prep, let’s see what happens and then go from there.

No one is confusing Riley for Kliff Kingsbury but, your love fest for Porkchop is laughable. Defense has become as soft as baby crap under his “leadership” and it’s nauseating. His position group the LBs have regressed so much it’s ridiculous. Pi$$ poor tackling all year, being in the wrong gaps, terrible angles and it’s all on Wes. Venable’s leftovers propped him up for a time…that time is over. 18 missed tackles against the coots and blowing a 17 point lead in the 4th last night is all I need to see from tubby.

He did indeed. Why change that style of play if it is working that well ??
If defense changed, they so should the Clemson offense. Both units have to be able to adjust to the other team, it is not just about a defensive adjustment. 21 points in a quarter and then slowed it way down and missed a couple of opportunities.

First of all, we are NEVER going to see the likes of Brent Venables again (unless OK fires him and he comes back himself).
We have had a bit of a drop off in talent recruitment, but that can't all be put at Goodwin's feet. There are a number of people who share responsibility for that drop off, including the big man himself.
Bottom line: We may never ever see the level of talent that we enjoyed while we were at the mountaintop. But we can be VERY competitive - and I think Wes is doing pretty well with what he has got.

We are 5th in the country in talent composite. No other ACC school is even top 10. It is absolutely criminal to be ranked 65th in Total Defense, 35th in scoring defense, 41st 3rd down % defense, 35th 4th down, 104th!!! in first downs defense, 60th pass defense, and 52nd redzone defense when you have top 5 talent in the entire country!!!
