If FSU had just held on vs NC State, they'd be

#1 in th ecountry right now and we'd be about 8th. We'd also be assured of another Orange Bowl appearance win or lose Saturday, assuming FSU won the ACCCG and went to BCS title. Not only that, we'd have an all ACC national title game in FSU vs Notre Dame (partial ACC). And to think, I pulled for NC State that night.
As for Clemson bing 10-1 and ranked 9th and 11th, we have just had some bad luck as far as how teams just behind us with two losses beat teams that were too far ahead of us to drop below us. For example, Tex AM beating Alabama. If that doesn't happen and it was highly unlikely, we'd be 8th and 10th. Then Oregon losing at home, come on. If that didn't happen, we'd be 7th and 9th and virtually sure of a BCS appearance win or lose Saturday.
It is not just the ACC membership that has us in this spot. When we played Tennessee in the Chick-Fil A in 2003, UT was # 6 in the country coming into the game. it happens.
One thing that is the ACC membership's fault is that there is not a better bowl lineup, but that may not be a problem ater 2014 when the new playoff starts. It is the ACC's fault that we don't have a New Year's Day Bowl lined up after the champ goes to the BCS. We had the Gator, but Swofford blew that. And we were never able to line up something like a Capital One or Outback just to get us on New Year's Day.

at an all ACC BCS Cahmpionship game with FSU vs Notre Dame and the top-10 had #1 FSU, #2 Notre Dame and #7 Clemson, this still would not have prevented Maryland from leaving. They left due to money and that is on Swofford not negotiating a better tv deal. Granted, the ACC on-field performance in recent years limited his bargaining power, but it could have been better. Also, ESPN hur their own 15 year investment by being cheap with the deal. Now the Big Ten network will have more and ESPN will have less when it comes to investment properties.

FSU's NCS loss hurt CU & FSU,

people can complain about the media bias all they want, it's true. The fact is, had FSU not lost a game they weren't supposed to(Pulled an FSU), Clemson's 10-1 record would look a lot better in the media's eyes right now.

BCS bowl wrapped up no matter what happens Saturday. Then, say we win vs South Carolina and we end regular season with ACC team FSU #1, Partial ACC team Notre Dame #2 and Acc team Clemson #5 or 6. Ranked 5th or 6th and watching two conference members play in the BCS Title game is pretty good.

I doubt your assumption that FSU would be #1 in the BCS.

The computers would still have them something like 10th or lower, meaning they'd likely be 3rd or 4th in the screwed up BCS standings.

au contraire mon frere - FSU would absolutely be #1. The big ol' huge ZERO next to the 11 makes that team jump a lot of others. Example: Notre Dame. No way they deserve their ranking.
Of course, FSU still would have to beat UF this week.

ND has the highest SOS in the country. The computers love them. FSU would still be about #10 in the computer rankings.

computers are not kind to them, but having no losses would make all the difference in the final BCS standings. In this case, they would be number 1.

Surfing around the other day I saw a site that projected the BCS on the what if scenarios.
Even if Florida State had beaten NC State they were still only averaging 11th in the computers. They are averaging 17th currently.
Change the 17 to 11 or .0290 to their total and they are still only 4th overall. The poll numbers at #1 would not be enough to flip FSU over Alabama. IOW......a 1 loss Bama team would be in ahead of FSU undefeated.
FSU non conference of Murray St, South florida and Savannah State and the weak ACC would be their doom
