turn-out?
Frankly, I could give a sheet about low voter turn-out. If someone is so lazy and apathetic as to not vote...then good in my book.
Now...I do think having so many people apathetic and uninformed about government is a big problem. Instead of all of the voter turnout efforts, we would be better served with the same effort given to civics and history education.
i listened to a discussion on the radio today about making it easier to vote, so we would have more voters. Really?!?!? We have early voting, absentee voting, and then the poll (normally very close to where you live) open typically for 12 hours on voting day. With all of those options, if you can't make it to vote, you suck and it's on you.
Wonder how many people realize why we vote on a Tuesday? It was to allow farmers and country-folk the Monday to drive the carts to the county seat, since Sunday was reserved for church. They had to allow for a whole DAY to travel on horse/cart/buggy just to cast their ballot. And we can't drive 1 mile and take 20 minutes to push some buttons on a screen or take a ballot to our mail-box and put the red flag up? Eff us!

However, it's true that some companies don't permit time off to vote, and there are people working multiple jobs who simply don't have the luxury to get to the polls. For that reason, and mainly because of the importance of Democracy to our society, Election Day should be a federal holiday.

which holiday will be replaced? I'm just not convinced we need that. Also, most people working multiple hourly jobs where they can't find time to vote in person...probably also work on many federal holidays.
Here is a list of voting set-ups by state:
http://www.ncsl.org/research/elections-and-campaigns/absentee-and-early-voting.aspx
To the best of my knowledge, the states where an excuse is needed for absentee voting considering not being able to get off of work as an excuse.
I am just not persuaded that "quality" voters (meaning caring and wanting to vote) are being kept from voting because it's too hard.

I'm not really persuaded either, and it's probably better to allow absentee voting than to try to mandate a holiday when there are some jobs that just won't be able to give everyone the day.
I retract my position on federal holiday. I'm for absentee ballots.

The "people" that Dems want to vote do not have a job anyway. The ones on welfare and on gubnet subsidy should be the first at the poll....oh, wait, but why would they want to change their lives? Why would they want to vote for an old white man who wont give them anything for free?

It's not like voter turnout efforts and the effort given to civics and history education are fueled by the same energy. You can do both.
And in terms of the turn-out, wouldn't people being dissatisfied with government make people want to vote more, not less?

voting to actually want to vote and to have been so motivated that they filled out a form with their drivers license or at the election commission office. Heck I think they will even mail you a form so you don't actually have to put forth any effort.
Bottom line...I don't want to motivate anyone to vote...I want to educate folks and then have them be self-motivated. May sound like semantics, but it's a big difference in my book.
And on the second question...it makes ME want to vote. I can't speak for others. But I hear so many people saying "I didn't like anyone running so I just stayed home". But frankly, I think most that say that are repeating what they hear.

or anger? And not from a source of civic duty or historic pride?
I see the "get out and vote" as a broad effort to get all types to vote. I think it's a pragmatic approach to a philosophical problem. How to get the best democracy? Does it come from the greatest number of citizenry voting or from the most educated and enthusiastic voters voting?

on election day...or early voting day...or get a ballot mailed to you?
I'm involved in IT and fairly savvy regarding web and network security. Ain't no way in hayell I would support on-line voting. It would be a HUGE magnet for domestic and international hacking. And how would you verify the person was even in the US, much less a citizen that should be voting. Social security number? LOL Some kind of voter "PIN"...give me a break.
In my opinion, there is no compelling reason to risk all that could go wrong with on-line voting.

society everything they want. There wasnt a man on the ballot promising the African-Americans a new life and promising them all that "hope and change" that they were going to receive for free.
Now they have seen him for his true colors, seen his intentions of deceving the public and they are no longer interested. Their lives didnt change after a record turnout, so they have no reason to vote.

"That is sad. But it's understandable given the results of the last few years." I would have been on board. His wording implies that there are millions of people who are thrilled with Democratic leadership but were JUST TOO BUSY this year to vote. Maybe I'm misreading it, but if not, I'd say that's some serious Democrat Kool-Aid Drinking.

Much more plausible explanation:
It's a midterm election. Turnout is always low. Incumbants won almost everywhere. The few defeats tended to help Pubs in the Senate.
Boring election, and the results aren't sending a big message for or against much of anything.

Shouldn't the liberal media LOL be trying to spin it somehow?
I don't know what would qualify as a massacre, but Pubs did very well in the Senate, where they gained 8 seats. In the House they did okay but not as dramatically. Governors' races were less impressive: only one incumbant Dem was beaten, and Pubs took 3 other seats where Dems were retiring.

Re: "Worst Voter Turnout in 72 years"
Nov 13, 2014, 9:33 PM

I found this amusing:
The turnout among young and minority voters was slightly higher than it was in the 2010 midterms...Republicans have continued their effort to suppress the turnout of young, poor and minority voters, although it was hard to make a definitive link between those laws and Democratic losses this year.
Basically, "We are grasping for straws to call the Republican's racists but simply can't so we will reference our failure to backup the claim." That's quality journalism right there.
