After that, go right into Talking Heads version,

I love me some Al Green, but the Talking Heads version(s)

Oct 4, 2012, 7:25 AM

SO MUCH BETTER!!

Also, of note, I think the Talking Heads are the most underrated and possibly greatest band evar.

Amazing band, highly underrated.

Oct 4, 2012, 7:33 AM

Talking Heads and Dire Straits emerged from the soul-crushing disco era and to this day have a sound that just can't be duplicated.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Their sound is/was so original and is timeless. I have yet

to find any unlistenable Talking Heads. You cannot say that about most of my other favorite bands.

Great band and underrated. I'd list them the 3rd best in

the 80s behind U2 and REM.

In terms of overall sound and body of work from the era,

Oct 4, 2012, 9:42 AM

I'd agree. In terms of pure musical talent within the band, Talking Heads probably smoke U2 and REM.

In the list of bands I dig, The Talking Heads are like 1c,

Oct 4, 2012, 9:44 AM

REM is probably top 20, and U2 is never mentioned. Get out of here with that U2 crap. You probably like the Eagles too.

2024 purple level memberringofhonor-greenr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

U2 from 80-92 was changing the world. Talking Heads

Oct 4, 2012, 10:06 AM

were changing NYC. I'll put their body of work from that era up against anyone.

Stupid argument though, cause Talking Heads make my top 10 list, so it's not like I'm heavily invested in arguing against them.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

My frame of reference is off because from 80-92 I was

Oct 4, 2012, 10:09 AM

-2 to 10 years old. The U2 in my head is not Joshua Tree, etc...it is Elevation crap.

I found the Talking Heads through Phish and Panic and somehow fell in love with them.

2024 purple level memberringofhonor-greenr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The big diff between the two bands IMHO is that when

Oct 4, 2012, 10:17 AM

The Talking Heads stopped innovating, they broke up. Naked isn't bad, but it sounds pretty mainstream.

U2 ended their run of innovation with Achtung Baby. There's some good stuff and some bad stuff that came afterwards, but in one form or another, it had all already been done.

and this is the longest string of U2 posts ever without

innovation that The Old Southern Jug Blowers bring to the world of recorded music.
