and the transfer portal to the fullest extent.
In other words, they are trying their best.l, despite some disadvantages relative to some of the more prominent programs. That, plus good coaching and player development, is why Clemson basketball punches above its weight class.
Clemson football has created these ridiculous restrictions that no other major college football program has. We don’t use the transfer portal. We don’t incorporate NIL in our recruitment of players. These self-imposed barriers make it hard, if not impossible, to reach our potential as a program. They are a big reason why we’ve underachieved three years in a row.
Stop making excuses for Dabo. He has everything he needs to succeed in this era of college football. He isn’t using all of them, and it’s a huge disservice to our program.

Technically it’s against the rules to use NIL bidding for recruiting. We have a great NIL program. Ga Tech just signed a kid to a deal for 800k a year for 2 years. Idk about you but I am fine with not signing an unproven highschool kid to a 2.4 million dollar deal. Imagine if the whole offense demanded that. Over 8 million dollars a year for one side of the ball. That just doesn’t make sense and isn’t sustainable.

College FB will look like and be as good as pro FB in just a couple of years if hard rules isn't put in place to control it all from top to bottom with harsh penalties to keep it in check. One set of rules for everybody without any ifs, ands, or buts. Slam the gavel down hard, and that's what you get for getting caught cheating regardless of who it is on staff, the entire program will suffer once they are caught. That will force schools to know the character of every coach on staff, and everything they have ever done, period. If that isn't what they want, well then allow the dirty ones to destroy it all at that program. The rest of them would do everything possible to keep their program on a straight path, and we could have college sports back with the players being paid, but every body gets the very same for position based pay!!!

Unfortunately, you can't legally do anything to keep NIL in check. Players have the legal right to negotiate contracts, and businesses can put any conditions they want on their contracts. If one QB can command a higher NIL deal than another, the NCAA cannot prevent them under the current law. For those thinking about the revenue share deal, that is just extra money to players. It allows the schools themselves to pay players and has no legal impact on NIL.
The only hope is that boosters get tired of spending hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars on teams and not winning titles (since only one team can win in any given year). FSU is already pissed.
That said, it's over. College is now the pros and everyone needs to accept that. Our recruiting class is gutted because we're unable or unwilling to play the same game as others. College football is gone, and we should be happy we were the dominant team when it was still an amateur sport.

"Technically it’s against the rules to use NIL bidding for recruiting," but the reality is that the rules are not enforced. Even when rules are broken, programs are caught and admit to it or are found guilty their results outweigh the punishment.
Dabo does have certain stances that make it harder being an elite football team in the short term. Most of those stances are beneficial to the players inside and especially outside of football in the long term. Fans simply have to figure out where on field results and following the rules to the letter fall within their priorities. Most of us want to be in the light gray area, but the fact is that makes it more difficult to be elite than walking in the very dark gray areas that our first opponent this season resides in.

Football uses its NIL money largely to retain the players we want to keep. We are paying a third string RS Freshman decent money because the staff thinks he can be a a star his JR year. Dabo’s strategy will have to tweak some but it’s not like he is refusing to participate in the NIL world. He is using it for retention instead of recruitment. It’s not like he is just stubborn and saying “No NIL”. I can’t think of a player that has left through the portal that we thought was worth what it would take to keep them. Pride and Mukuba would be great for depth but we have players that were ahead of them on the depth chart. We will have some gaps next year that will require Dabo to look harder at the portal. Does that mean less money for TJ Parker or Peter Woods? Probably. This is not like the Power Rangers days where those dudes came back to win a Championship, Barrett Carter is making good money to come back and improve his draft stock.

Totally agree with this assessment 👏 It is beyond ridiculous not to use the transfer portal. It could be used properly to shore up depth. We as fans get excited when coaches in all other Clemson sports bring in transfers but make excuses for Dabo not using it.

I think that the use of the NIL is debatable. Dabo does not appear to support large sums being paid out for elite players, but I don't think that groups are just sticking it aside for the superstar recruit. Therefore they must be paying it out for a larger group, and for existing players. Reality is that you can't spend money that isn't there. If the NIL money isn't being generated that doesn't lie with Dabo.

Yea I get not wanting to pay players b4 they step on the field but the way NIL has changed recruiting the home enviroment only goes so far now. We will need to start paying kids similar amounts to other schools if we don’t want to fall behind. It’s sad but the truth of today’s CFB even more so when the revenue split thing kicks in. We need out the ACC and get the big bucks so we can do what these others are doing. Go Tigers!!!

But I do know this:
-Blaming NIL or accusing other programs of cheating when we don’t get a recruit is petty. -We have every ability to sign top flight recruits. -We have plenty of NIL opportunities available to our players.
You can’t tell me that Georgia Tech has more to offer a recruit than we do. Their network of boosters is smaller than ours, and their NIL possibilities are more limited than ours. There is zero reason why a football recruit should choose GT over us if it has anything to do with football or NIL.

We are 4th in recruiting for average player rating. We are doing just fine Judge. Let’s see how this season plays out. Injury at receiver, a new playbook, and a first year starter at qb hurt us last year.

Way more opportunities in Atlanta. JK seems to think that NIL money just comes from boosters. There are plenty of businesses that would pay NIL money if they thought an athlete would in some way help promote what they are selling.
As a matter of fact NIL should not be legitimate, in my opinion, unless the athlete actually does something to earn the money. I guess the contracts spell out their duties, but it should be more than some menial task, like making one visit to a car dealers showroom.

Kids don't pick colleges just for the football team. It's a large part of it but just think maybe, just maybe, the school has a better program that he is interested in or maybe he prefers Atlanta over Clemson. Plenty of reasons a kid would pick GT. Not everybody likes Clemson and that's okay.

Like I've said, reel the control back into some type of committee not being the NCAA, and bring college sports back to the colleges and to the fans. But it will take some pretty harsh rules to govern where money is the major concern, but as it should be!!!

It's not an excuse, it's a fact, but we can't afford to pay what isn't in the budget to pay unless Dabo wants to chip in on the recruits he really wants or needs to win with.
I've seen my entire life that with most people, the more money a person has, the greedier they can get. But if I was in the very same position that Dabo is in at Clemson or any other college FB program. If by me winning at the level that Dabo has won with that has gotten his salary to where it is now, if it was me, I would throw some of that money back into getting several of those high profile recruits that could keep me at the top, and he has proved that with one of the top QBs he could win at a high level. I would throw a little at what it would take to keep me winning at a high level, and what it would take for me to win it all twice in a decade. That would keep the bigger raises coming!!! If they're not going to put very stiff rules in place to govern it, why not do as the others do to stay on top, do it or fall so far behind that your program becomes less than a second thought, enough said!!!

Your narrative about Clemson not having NIL money is wrong.
Clemson is in the top 15 in avg $ NIL per player.
But you’ll keep posting this narrative regardless.
They just don’t promise it during recruiting. In other words, they don’t cheat.

You think that but last year we ended up 16th per player rating and lower than that once the transfers were figured into the other teams.
Same thing will happen this year. Our per player rating will go down. Last August our per player rating was top 10, but dropped after signing day.
So, how "good " are we in today's environment. It's unfortunate but the facts are we've dropped off the last 4 years.

I agree with on field performance we have slipped. I think it has been mostly OL and QB play related. Our defense when at full strength was a top 10 defense with the offense putting them behind the eight ball consistently. If OL and QB enough to consistently move ball even they do not score every time. We will be a top 10 team this year. I also believe that is how it is going be vs everyone except uga. I feel uga and oh st are a tier above everyone else. Can we beat yes but we have to have our best game and they need to have an average game.

OL has been mostly bad, QBs have been mostly bad, and the WRs have been bad at everything (getting open, catching, and blocking).
Defense has largely maintained its elite status which is the only reason we haven't cratered back to a .500 program.

This is one of those areas where 'the obvious' on portal use, recruiting, and NIL worries doesn't square. Why has it only affected one side of the ball and not everywhere? We even had a legendary DC move on in the midst and we're right back to deadly. PK has been off but good gracious we've had the elite of their classes come in.
It tells me more that we just missed on some key recruits on O over several cycles earlier, along with injuries there, and that will improve as we're getting back to a better process. I'm confident the on field results this season will bear out that tale.

What I don’t love is that he has failed to adapt, and will likely never come close to another one unless he becomes less stubborn and embraces NIL and the transfer portal.
At least he seemed to realize that hiring young, unproven coaches is a bad idea, and has started looking more at actual qualifications. Clemson family and love and togetherness are great, but they can’t overcome a lack of talent when it comes to coaching (or players).

I think that football can succeed without using the portal, but it requires recruiting at a high level. I don’t think we are going to be able to recruit at a top 5 or top 10 level consistently without paying kids upfront. There are too many good schools that provide good opportunities for kids to succeed that are also willing to pay upfront. Why come to Clemson when you can have a great experience somewhere else and get paid year one and help your family financially?

Let’s be clear here. HS recruits are informed about NIL opportunities at Clemson, but our collective doesn’t play shady games with teenagers and their “handlers” that ride along for financial gain. That hurts Clemson signing recruits looking for cash first. I can live with that. Reportedly, the latest example was David Sanders. Players like Sammy Brown are the opposite scenario. There’s a good chance the Tigers will sign more recruits with Brown’s perspective in the future. There was so much hand wringing for the kid that recommited to Ole Miss. Didn’t understand that. He was not even a high 4* let alone 5*.

NIL being used at every level without a thought of what it will cost especially with those schools that are in an advantage of generating NIL bucks, the cost of a true 5 star kid that will help bring those programs to the top of the latter won't be a big deal. I look for a school like GT being in the Atlanta area to quickly become one of the top 5 FB programs in the country, especially with no control of making this NIL thing even for every FB program. Until it gets back to where we recruit the school and the coaching staff, big money wins out in every situation, and that's the way that it works in the economic world that we live in where the most money rules all!!!
College sports will sooner than we think, will be classified by how much NIL they're capable of bringing through Booster support and the big business area they're in. Small schools out of the big business area and without a very large booster support that bigger schools have, and without some sort of NIL rules making it even with every school, Clemson will fall from grace like that airplane that crashed and burned a couple weeks ago, but Clemson will be without the same loss of life of such a tragedy, but we will crash and burn as one of the top FB programs. Within 5 more years without any control over how the NIL must work, in our best seasons we won't make the college FB Top 25...

I like our class. There were a couple of misses that I wish we had gotten. Several of those were WR, but we are fine there. Unless someone portals out or retires, everyone comes back for the 2025 season (can’t envision a Junior going warly NFL). Definitely need to ink some talent on the ‘26 class.

Rankings changed. TJ Moore is a good example. He was given a 5th star after his performance during the army All American week. I guarantee barring any injury Gideon Davidson will be a 5 star by the end of this season. He was the junior national player of the year last season. A very premature post.
