Will this make us better next year? Opinions?

Mar 14, 2016, 5:34 PM

First let's just pretend Blossongame is returning.

Losses

Nnoko
J Smith
Roper

Additions

Shelton Mitchel pg 6ft 3
Marcquies Reed g 6ft 4
Scott Spencer true frosh 6ft 6 sg/sf Supposedly can shoot the 3.
Elijah Thomas 6ft 8 or 9 250 Rated highly out of HS, but sucked at A&M averaging 3 pts per game.

Will our additions be better than our losses?

Seems to me that we should be better next year unless Blossongame doesn't return. It seems to me that NCAA should be the realistic expectation without question if returns.
I bet he doesn't though, but let's say he is for the sake of argument. What say you my fellow experts? :)

If JB returns we absolutely should make the tourney. If he doesn't it'll be like KJ all over again and we won't

let me throw this scenario at you...

Mar 14, 2016, 5:45 PM

BB gets another year, and JB leaves for the draft...

Without JB, we are picked to finish somewhere below 12th in the league...

However, we win some games we should not, and lose some we should not...

We are on the bubble about 3/4 of the way through the year, but ultimately fall short of the NCAAT... We do, however, finish around 7th or 8th in the ACC.

Brownell is heralded b/c of the job he did after losing Blossomgame, and being picked to finish near the bottom.

What should the admin. do?

tulane fired their basketball coach, got a crappy record

Mar 14, 2016, 5:48 PM

we should hire him cause the last tulane coach we hired led to dabo

badge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't think that excuse will fly again, unless..

Mar 14, 2016, 5:49 PM [ in reply to let me throw this scenario at you... ]

they are just trying to not pay a buyout.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree with you... so my question would be

Mar 14, 2016, 5:52 PM

why back yourself in that corner?

Expectations were clearly set 2 seasons ago with the extension. Since, we have missed the postseason both years. That wouldn't be that bad if we hadn't missed it the previous 2 as well, with only the NIT berth thrown in the middle.

All you say about the new guys and we should be better is true...

but you have to admit that with BB.... a trend, is a trend, is a trend

Depends on how we do in Nov/December without Thomas.

Mar 14, 2016, 6:00 PM

With the loss of Nnoko, we lose 8 pts, 5 rebounds and 2 blocks per game. I don't think we make that up with our two returning big men - Djitte and Robertin, in the first half of the season. I don't see our poor rebounding from this year improving with our perimeter focus and lack of a low post player as talented as Nnoko.

If we bomb in Nov/December like Brownell teams have a tendency to do, then the pressure to perform in the ACC will be too great and we will peter out down the stretch again and miss The Tournament.

If we lose Blossomgame this summer, we have no go to scorer, confidence becomes even more fragile, and we plummet back to Earth and become an NIT bubble team again.

Robertin

Mar 14, 2016, 6:09 PM

Any upside for next season?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Less than 1 point and 1 rebound in 4.4 minutes per game.

Mar 14, 2016, 6:15 PM

I wouldn't count on much from him.

What I was hoping...

Mar 14, 2016, 6:19 PM

...is that we really didn't need him much, because he needed to develop and he was 3rd string. We will need him a lot, so I am hoping there is some potential.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He seems to have some athleticism for such a large man and

Mar 14, 2016, 7:03 PM

I thought he showed some potential in the little bit of time he spent on the court that I saw. You would think he could replace the blocked shots and some of the rebounds with his size if he can stay out of foul trouble, but the points will be hard to come by.

The concern I have is, I thought Nnoko showed NBA potential his sophomore year, assuming he continued to progress at the rate he did from his freshman to his sophomore season. Unfortunately, it didn't turn out that way. We just haven't developed any centers in awhile. Is that coaching?

I for one am glad you are stopping. You are one of the most ignorant posters ever. You obviously think very highly of your own opinion, unlike the rest of us - RockHillTiger

IMO no JB, no NCAA, no NIT ... Lot of Bi+ching!***

null

Yep - Feel bad for players & fans that our overall ...

Mar 14, 2016, 9:03 PM

talent level is lacking. Seems our players are quality young men who play hard --- add a few stars and the team could do really well.

BB has to recruit!!!

So long as JB returns, YES, clear upgrade next year since those 3 contributed very little of GOOD this past month - hated it, especially for Jordan, but what a poor representation of Brownell to have such little actual help on the court from his seniors. Recruiting JB to NOT make the same mistake as KJ will be a key to Brownell's future, but we know how recruitment of KJ turned out. Too little maturity and confidence by the players out on the court other than by JB (though Avery and Gabe usually acted as if they knew what they were doing) Just like Coleman two years ago and Gabe last year, we finally see in last week of season that Ty Hudson probably should have seen more playing time all year (though I suppose the staff would say none of them were ready until then) - oh well. Despite some fine moments, BB has clearly NOT created the program we would expect at this juncture. (and in case he or staff MIGHT review such posts - which I know is unlikely - our shooters need to be coached to use the backboard MUCH more - all of them could benefit by using the glass from the sides given the bricks I see thrown up each game - at least we would have a better chance at a rebound - although the inability to immediately find someone to box out is another fundamental flaw that drives me crazy). Not giving up yet - and hope JB has not as well. Go Tigers!
