Will the D-line be great?

I like our tackles a lot, and Woods will be a star. I’m just wondering if we will have a consistent edge rusher than can really get around tackles and be a problem…maybe XT if he can finally be healthy? If we don’t have a consistent pass rush I think we’ll get burned in the secondary some

I think it’s going to come down to the ends if we are going to be great health crucial. But the opposite side we need mascoll to be more than just a body out there

P. Woods will see time at DE; which is great.
Zaire Patterson and Cade Denhoff have opportunities to cement themselves as solid contributors this season! Patterson in particular can set himself up for a huge year! He has the ability to do; but does he have the heart and desire to?
We will be a dominant Defensive line.

With little actual film to support this, I could be way off base, but my “gut” says that the ceiling of both Denhoff and Patterson is close to expected production of Mascoll. My point is that both could produce at a similar level this year.
Of course, I trust Mascoll based on his years in the system, and we need all three to perform this year.

I'm skeptical about woods playing end with the weight he gained. I think they want to keep him at tackle. Have you heard anything about him playing end since the Spring when he was lighter?

P. Woods will play at DE because he's too good to not be on the field.
On typical run downs; I see him being asked to hold the edge and tackle/control any action to his side. On obvious passing downs, you would get someone lighter in the game like Patterson, Mascol.
DE have to stop the run as well and PW can do that.
I thought Christian Wilkins was more than just serviceable at his weight when he was flexed out to DE; so I don't see him having a huge issue with it. Particularly as a result of his weight.

It's impossible to say. Everything looked like last year's D Line would be the best in the country and challenge the power rangers. It didn't work out that way for various reasons. We lost a lot of talent there, and I think KJ was a particularly big blow. This year, while our ends don't appear as dominant, we're still tremendously talented at the defensive line. I'm hopeful they'll want it more than last year's guys and they seem to have a chip on their shoulder. So I'm hoping they're great and become what we think they can be, but until we see it, who knows?

Can Mascoll play better contain on the edge? That was a huge problem for us last season. Will Denhoff/Patterson emerge? Will we be forced to burn redshirts and play freshmen??
To me, those are the biggest unknowns as to just how good the DL will be.

Exactly, right?
I like Mascol and XT and their experience.
But, Mascol hasn't been dominant yet. Solid yes, but not dominant. XT hasn't been healthy enough to really say, but he's explosive and can make plays if he stays healthy.
So, I like our starters!
As you said, "After that is probably the biggest question mark on the entire team besides PK"! Do we have quality depth that can come in and play DE at an elite level? Which is why; on running downs, I think you may see Woods and either Mascol or XT and some sort of rotation like that.
Patterson is said to have all the tools. TJ Parker Dabo said has flashed. Denhoff appears to be coming around. The DE group is easily the group that concerns me the most personally on this year's edition of the Tigers football team. I'll be biting my nails during the Duke game if they aren't setting the edge, holding the edge, and making plays from this position.
As we advance; you can't have QBs sitting back eating sandwiches and reading a book b/c there is no pressure on them. If the DEs aren't solid; they can just double-team our Elite DTs and take their time. It's critical we have good pass rushers and edge holders.

I keep thinking about the talent we had on the edge last season and it worries me some!! Got to believe the Coaches know what they're doing, though!
