Bakich isn't expecting him back

Thinks he'll be drafted high enough to leave (mentioned in 1 of the TNet articles earlier).
He already passed up draft once to fulfill his dream of playing football & baseball @ Clemson. Add in he's already dealt w/ couple significant injuries, he can't be faulted for taking the money this go round.

I don't see it, but if someone is crazy enough to throw big money at him then take it and run.

Exactly my thought I just don’t understand how he has enough tape to be a high draft pick

Pretty sure he was pretty highly rated out of high school but that was before several injuries with limited performance. Don’t get me wrong I know Taylor is a great player I just think he needs to put together a solid full season. I’m also not a professional scout so my opinion is meaningless lol.

I thought the same thing. I would think coming back and demonstrating some durability while putting together a strong, consistent season would enhance his draft value considerably.

I think he was drafted in the late rounds out of HS because he let it be known he was going to Clemson. Personally, I think he needs another year of development. This season just never got going except for a short hot streak. I understood he didn’t get a big NIL package to stay last year but maybe that could change if he’s on the fence now. He lost his full academic scholarship after leaving football so this is certainly a big financial decision.

MLB guys are drafted based on projections and later development and potential. Very few guys are drafted for the “here and now” besides a handful of special pitchers that don’t last long in the minors… the same way Taylor along with every other high school kid projected in the first or second round doesn’t have any college tape, they know what they are looking for. I would love to have him m, cuifo, overtop, and wright back but I doubt we get that lucky unless the NIL money is there.

I think the draft position will make the decision for him. Although, as already

stated, with a couple significant injuries already behind him, he may not want to tempt fate in college anymore, regardless of draft position. I wish him well, whichever road he chooses.

But how does he get paid enough to go? It isn't like he was lighting it up before the injury.

He doesn't gain a whole lot by coming back. Seniors lose all their leverage when it comes to signing (because they can't go back to school.)
MLB teams aren't really drafting off of college stats, because that doesn't project at all to the next level. They're drafting based on tools, and he was a projected 1st-2nd round pick coming out of high school so they clearly saw something in his game at some point. This year he was banged up so it's a throwaway year, but he did hit 7 home runs in 32 games and one of the "knocks" on him coming into this year was that they thought he lacked power. He's got a good eye, doesn't strike out at an alarming clip, uses all fields, and he's lost some speed since his knee injury as a freshman but he still probably has above average to plus speed. He also didn't fully commit to baseball until this past year, so he's a bit raw as a true baseball prospect. Some team is going to take a chance on him and if he's drafted in the first 8-10 rounds he's going to sign.

I believe he has a minimum slot money amount in mind. Even if it's the 8th - 10th round, if its 4th-5th round slot money he leaves. I believe he also has 2 more years because of Covid. He would be the last class with Covid exemptions, so he still has some bargaining power should he return. Again, I think his decision is fully based on slot money and where he gets drafted.

He was originally drafted 19th round. Money's not an issue. He's not a senior next year, he could come back.

Didn’t Grice come back and lose his draft leverage? He certainly exceeded Taylor in terms of MLB potential and coming off a down year, but improved his draft position with a bounce back season under the new coaching staff.
