game of football at its highest level, albeit as a punter. He has an actual personality, unlike some of his cardboard cutout, sawdust for brains contemporaries at ESECPN. He makes Gameday somewhat entertaining again, within the confines of the corporate entity is has become. If people came to me throwing the kind of money they threw at him, I would jump all over it, just like he did. What is the problem with him?

That isn’t happy unless they are the ones dominating a discussion or interaction and that can be hard to stomach for too long.
I think he was better for short periods and bit pieces on gameday.

No hate. Not my cup of tea for a college fb preview show. Don't understand the incessant need, on all these shows, to be loud and comedic.

I haven’t cared about the game day show or crew for several years now. Started off okay then the talking heads just got worse over time. Throw in corporate sponsorship and their commercials as well.

In previous years he was a loud mouth, over animated yapper. I noticed yesterday he’s calmed down since now being an ESPN Game Day regular. Hopefully they keep him sedated and all will be good or at least better.

Because he reminds me of a loudmouth at the bar that leaves you with 2 choices.
Cash out and leave or go knock him the #### out.

If you can stomach it, watch ESecPN for most of a day time broadcast. Their protocol is to talk loud and scream and disagree with one another. Their head cheerleader is Stephen A** Smith.

Funny both are some of the highest payed people at espn. Why because they bring eyes to the tv. Just look at game days ratings when pat joined. I get some here don’t like him but that obviously doesn’t resonate country wide. I for one like him.

Don’t hate. Think he is too loud and says outrageous. Wonder if due to lack of prep. Don’t appreciate cursing from time to time. Doesn’t add to broadcast.

learned anything. ESPN went downhill when they started focusing more on the personalities than the sports. He is just a loudmouth with a bunch of antics, like Stephen A Smith. Give me Chris Fowler or Herbstreit over him any day.

Like many have echoed so far -- better in doses than as a main character on the segment.
Frat bros and teens will probably enjoy him most and I imagine that's what ESPN was considering (attracting younger viewers) when bringing him on.
Personally, I still find some clips from his show funny every now and then but sitting through an entire show with him as a main draw is just not for me.

He’s just too much and too interested in trying to be loud and outrageous. If I was still watching ESPN pre-game, it would be to hear some analysis of the games. I think if he had a small segment it might be ok, but I can’t take him for an entire show. It’s a shame they dumped Pollock for this guy. He’s way too much except for in small doses.

What's really a shame is, Espin is supposedly losing money,

but chose to give McAfee an obscene contract, yet fire the much more knowledgeable Pollack, who supposedly was paid only $80,000 per year. Apparently, they think McAfee is worth a 1000 times more than Pollack!

The decision to get rid of Pollock and keep him is head scratching. I guess it shows why they are going broke.

I refuse to believe he made the ratings go up. Who would watch GameDay just because of him. Personally I think he is okay. My point is the money he is making can't be worth it.

All you have to do is simply look at the ratings. There is a reason a contract was struck quickly to bring him in. Not only that it was a very lucrative one at that.

He was paid for the popularity of his podcast
Aug 27, 2023, 6:21 PM
|
|
The Pat McAfee Show channel on YouTube has 2.2 million subscribers and 1.6 billion total views, and his contract with ESPN allows them to broadcast all 230 episodes per year on ESPN and ESPN+. GameDay is just a side gig for him. ESPN is probably hoping that his podcast subscribers will tune in to watch him on GameDay, and also that GameDay viewers might decide to start watching his podcast.
