Why Riley left OU!

Lincoln was seen as a great coach playing in a league where offense was the determining factor in success, not defense! He was going to go into the SEC where defense is much better which would negate his offense and his defense would not hold SEC down to the number of points required to win. He knew his wins and dominance would be minimized to a mid level team in the SEC, so he took a job paying big bucks where the only way would be up.

He saw the handwriting on the wall that easy wins against teams with no defense was over. Just look at their results in CFP.

Brent would be going into a bad situation if he takes this job, but I would be pulling for him because he turned out defense into one of the best in college football. He is a brilliant coach and motivator.

Yall are trying to hard. Its money plain and simple. You go to the SEC and you even win a championship you might be gone in 3 years. You go to USC get a 40+ million dollar contract and coast on talent alone. Plus Cali women are built different. Doubt Oklahoma would be on anyones top 20 list of places to live if you were a millionaire.

In light of NIL, Oklahoma is a big deal in Norman, but USC is in LA which has a virtually unlimited ceiling for NIL.

My first thought is that Riley went to USC to still have a path the making the playoffs. As an SEC school, and with 4 team playoff, they'd likely not ever make it back in. Even 8 team playoff could be tough.

But at the real USC, I could easily see them being undefeated or 1 loss champions in most years and having an almost guaranteed path to CFP even in the 4 team format.

The big money is just gravy.
