Why I like Brent Venables

Sep 26, 2012, 7:49 AM

Because he takes ownership.

“Why is that happening, what are we telling them, why are some of these things continuing to happen. So we’ve got to do a better job off the get-go as coaches to put them in more successful situations and positions.”

KS would have never accepted anything, blamed the chunk plays, rationalized how they "only" gave up four yards per run, "if you subtract the qb read options", and then talked about how the players just had to play better.

BV owns it. He stays calm and thinks of solutions.

Our defense may not be very good right now, but if he's given enough time, they will be.

the answer to our defensive inefficiencies going forward..you can't say KS didn't take ownership... go back and watch some of his interviews after huge games that we lost he was very consistent at taking the blame and not blaming the players...thats why i never could stay mad at the guy he took ownership after the orange bowl and took ownership for the lack of consistency. Kevin Steele was a good guy ya'll and I think a decent Def. Coordinator. He just didn't have the players to make his system work and I think we're seeing a bit of that this year. BV is trying to run his system but these guys just can't do it. I think that is frustrating him more than any of us...so he'll have to dumb down his defense to try and get some less destructive results....

I got a feeling we're going to be a running a pretty blah defensive scheme for the rest of the year to try and not short circuit our guys. He'll run a basic defensive scheme and build on his talent for next year....

I love BV on the sidelines though...he's so freakin' intense and on full blast.. wish our players acted like that...they all act like tommy bowden.ho hum and oh well attitude.

backs. The line is small (very young, no years in the weightroom yet) and the backers have to get stronger and play better technique. We knew this defense was going to struggle this year. I think by the end of the year the technique will be better and the defense will. Another off season and the defense could be crazy. We need better talent at the CB and safety position though, and that is just going to take time. A good line and linebackers would cover up some of the issues at cb and safety.

Next year when Nkemdiche, Adams, Pagano, and Daniels is busting through the OL, things will be much different. Add to that a hard hitting Boulware and O'Daniel as part of the linebackers crew.

It seems to me that...

anytime you have a star player on D, ie, Bowers, Adams, Sapp, etc that you are drawing double (protection) teams and at that point the D coordinator is generally playing with more players then his opponent and is able to address deficiencies in other areas (and basically get to the ball). I think pulling in some star players on D will give us a whole new look and level of success on defense.

KS took reaponsibility after every loss. Did us heaps of good.

COLLEGE: A three-year starter at strong safety for Clemson, finished his career with 234 tackles and 11 interceptions.

That's winning football

I knew right then and there that Steele was done.
