Mmmmmm disagree. As a defender, I love that rule... maybe strikers disagree lol It's an unfair advantage for the offense to be past the defense before the ball is in play, much like a false start penalty in football.

Big difference. The ball isn't in play in football

In soccer the ball is always in play. That's like saying a wide receiver can't go into the end zone behind the safeties until the football makes it there.

Without the rule an offense player can basically linger in the penalty box and interfere with the Keeper. It's like saying goaltending is a dumb rule in basketball

Soccer is a stupid sport

I watch it alot, since I travel out of the US a bunch and it's the only thing on.
But an actual goal is so #### random and often not the result of good play. And the flopping. My God, the flopping!!!!1!11!

While overhauling the soccer rule book,

let's also get rid of the goalkeeper. Why should he/she be allowed to use his/her hands when none of the other players can? It's equivalent to goaltending in basketball. Most Americans want to see scoring, and I mean a lot of scoring. We need each team to routinely score in the 50 to 100 point range. We're not patient enough to follow a sport where the ball gets kicked back-and-forth and around for 2 hours and the final score end up being something like 1-0.

It would be like cherry picking in basketball, there would be one long pass and then a shot. Which honestly doesn't sound bad compared to what usually happens in a soccer game...

Alot is wrong with soccer

1. The field too ### big 2. Offsides is dumb 3. If you have offsides, then dont have a goalie. Its already too hard to score. 4. Flopping 5. The effeminate ref, prancing around and pulling cards out of his pocket at attention. 6. The clock runs up with indeterminate extra time. The game just sort of ends whenever the ref decides, "Well, that's enough of that."

1. The field too ### big --> only if one's butt is too ### big to play the whole field
2. Offsides is dumb --> I agree -- offsides is dumb
3. If you have offsides, then dont have a goalie. Its already too hard to score. --> see #3
4. Flopping --> some. But remember, the object of desire is at your feet while you are running full speed and people with cleats want it and are kicking at it. Also, no silly pads.
5. The effeminate ref, prancing around and pulling cards out of his pocket at attention. --> now you're just being ugly. Most refs are in such great shape so as to put athletes in other sports to shame. Also, do you prefer dropping your yellow hanky to presenting a yellow card? Now who's effeminate?
6. The clock runs up with indeterminate extra time. The game just sort of ends whenever the ref decides, "Well, that's enough of that." --> in college the halves are very cleanly timed. The issue with indeterminate time at the end of halves and games was an issue and is now well corrected with clearly stated 'extra time' in most professional leagues. There is some discretion still needed as play time can be lost to injury or celebration.
AND ... stoppage of play only to switch sides, substitute (and then only when there is a natural stop in play) or injury. Bad-a$$ sport.

Soccer purists may like to argue for the rule -- but they are only used to it.
When you stop and think about the rule, it makes no sense.
It is completely artificial and allows one team to not have to defend the entire field of play.
Think about it like this ... if you remove the rule, the offense will be able to press the entire field, defenders will have to cover them, space will open up all over the field. There will be more skill/possession and scoring opportunities. It will be good for the fans! It will be good for the sport giving an advantage to those with skill and speed.

Changing the rules is not good for the number one sport in the world. Just because Americans do not like it does not mean fans do not love the sport.

Field is too big for that...it would be terrible

Now if you want to shrink the field reduce the number of players then you could do that, but no one would do that because it would then be such a big liability on the defensive end: hence why you don't see it in basketball.
What you are talking about would turn it into a man on man game with ISOs ruling the play, no thank you.

It is defiantly not a stupid rule. Without offsides you could just sit back behind the defenders the whole game.
