If I had told you when Miami joined in 2005

Feb 4, 2015, 12:16 PM

That over the next 10 years they would fail to win the Coastal division a single time

Would you have believed me?

As a conference, we really, really need them to return to any semblance of the form they used to have. Kinda goes for BC/VT as well but they have had much more success relatively speaking while in ACC.

I anticipated a drop off after leaving the big cheat

Feb 4, 2015, 12:24 PM

I'm more surprised vt was able to hold on as long as they did.

I suppose they go hand in hand. Miami had a difficult time because of VT the first few years, and then GT has resurged since about 2009.

Still, your campus is in South Beach. Go find some #### playmakers and coach them up. It isn't cootlumbia.

Re: If I had told you when Miami joined in 2005

Feb 4, 2015, 12:26 PM

In 2005 nobody would believe they wouldn't win the ACC a single time over 10 years. To not win a division with teams like Duke, UVA, and UNC in it would have been unthinkable.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I would agree

Feb 4, 2015, 12:40 PM

We need us and FSU to keep doing what we are doing but we need VT and Miami to return to the powerhouse they once were. If we just had 4 dominate teams in the ACC, we would no doubt have have more respect. Imagine if Miami returned to the dominant program they were in the early 2000s and imagine if VT returned to the team we use to hate to play.

Re: I would agree

Why that just means more competition for recruits. I personally like things just the way they are. DON"T CHANGE ANYTHING!!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They have a president like Barker. NOT intrested in big time

Feb 4, 2015, 1:27 PM

winning. They see sports as a negative. It's a liberal elitist academia thing. From what I've heard and read, our new president is "All In". I see him in a lot of pictures with recruits. I don't recall ever seeing a picture of Barker with a recruit. Miami will suck until they get a pro-football pro-athletics president.

Really? Barker retired last year

Feb 4, 2015, 1:53 PM

Pretty much all of what we've done lately in football was done during his tenure. Don't let your vendetta against elite academics bias what you remember.

Don't let the facts get in your way! It has been documented

Feb 6, 2015, 6:55 PM

by Mickey and others that Barker would give lip service to athletic success while simultaneously doing things behind the scenes to hamper it. Remember the AARC? The "no JUCOs" policy? There were other things as well. Go read some of the comments over on Shakin' the Southland. They have documented the difference in Clements' energy and enthusiasm surrounding athletics, especially his involvement in football recruiting. They said it is like night & day compared to Barker.

I am a proud Clemson alum. I support improved academics. But I do not support cheating like we did. Nor making it an obsession where every decision made is based primarily on how it might effect our US News ranking. Nor would I ever support anything that would lead to "academic elitism", which is not who we are nor what we do. We can improve academics without harming athletics, without manipulation, without being snobs, and without changing the core of who we are. I'm 100% on board with that!

If you think Barker was "All In" you're deluding yours self.

I agree what we did was in spit of baker not because of him. He was obsessed with making Clemson an elite public school. While I will agree that's a good thing I did not agree with his methods. Clemson is so much more than just a school to the state of SC. I don't think he ever got that. Having great athletic helps everyone. He knew that but couldn't spend the dollar to make 2.

In case you needed any more proof .....

Feb 7, 2015, 9:02 AM [ in reply to Really? Barker retired last year ]

Written by David Hood on the front page ....

"Times are changing at the school, and for the first time in recent memory the academic side and President Jim Clements is working hand-in-hand with the athletic side. Athletic director Dan Radakovich and Swinney are on the same page. The Board of Trustees proved Friday its willing to go the extra mile. "

I think it has more to do

Feb 4, 2015, 1:57 PM [ in reply to They have a president like Barker. NOT intrested in big time ]

Recruiting and player development

So in other words, coaching

They remind me of us several years ago. Would land a big player or two, when a big game or two, but be riddled by inconsistencies and never win any sort of meaningful hardware.

Look at the impact Morris and Venables had IMMEDIATELY.

Until Miami ponies up some money an gets a good head coach or good assistants they will continue to wander wilderness.

Let's be clear about VT. They had a nice little 10-12 year run. Outside of that they stunk. Do not expect them to be consistent ever.

Miami needs an on campus stadium. Apparently the drive to the new OB is terrible so Miami fan neighbor tells me. Miami has a better shot than VT. Bottom line stiffer competition exposed them.
