Why cant it all be true?

1) Clemson began to decline at WR after Jeff Scott left; 2) DJ was not a good fit our program; 3) Elliott and Streeter were not good OCs; 4) We lost the best DC in the business; 5) NIL has given players opportunities to make money; 6) The transfer portal has bolstered parity among CFB; 7) COVID and everything that came with that (shorter seasons for some, recruiting restrictions, additional eligibility)
Bad OCs calling plays for a struggling QB to throw the ball to bad receivers is a disaster. Mix that with losing an irreplaceable DC and other teams getting players they otherwise couldn’t recruit, plus adding in players wanting to go to the highest bidder—clearly things haven’t been good for Clemson.
All of this happened within a 3 year span. Now in year 4, we have a better QB and proven OC, a solid DC who is learning (yes, I said it) and maturing WRs (yes, I said that too).
2-2 is clearly not the situation anybody anticipated. But this team has undergone A LOT of change in a short span. Maybe Dabo will change, maybe he won’t. Maybe he’s gotten complacent, maybe he hasn’t. Only time will tell.
Regardless, we have a team that has played their butts off and unfortunately the W-L column doesn’t reflect that. Whether you choose to give up on this team or not is your own business, but we owe it to them to stand behind them as they represent the paw.

Jason Priester noted that he didn't really like the state of the WR room when Scott left. A lot of big bodies that weren't overly fast.
As to the basic point of the post, absolutely. I agree, it's not just one (or even two most likely) things. Which is why it's also likely not going to be a 'quick' fix.

I literally think we're one 6'2 - 6'4" outside receiver at the level of (Hopkins, Watkins, Bryant, Williams, Higgins or even a Deon Cain) that would drastically change how we operate in critical moments.
I can't help but think what a Keon Coleman would have done for us this year. Of course....he's got to want to come here to.
Still, getting a threat like that would instantly change our ability to hit deep shots and also give us the weapon we really need in the red zone.
It's so crazy how many times we've missed at that type of receiver in the last 5 years.
There are 7 WR's listed below that we've recruited since 2018. None of them have come close to the any of the receivers listed above (2010 - 2018).
- Justyn Ross (after his freshman year, injury understanding) - Ladson (Never flashed, transferred) - Ngata (Did okay. But never Broke as expected) - Ajou Ajou - Truly a terribly wasted scholarship. Transferred, thankfully. - EJ Williams (had a few moments, but ultimately transferred) - Dacari Collins - Transferred. - Beaux Collins - When is the light going to come on? - Adam Randall - Still hoping he blossoms but haven't not been impressed so far.
I equally blame recruiting and coaching (development).

Most of that is true, who is saying it's not? Pumpers? Dumpers? Got Names? Who's on first? Say what?

I think it’s just a general acknowledgment that it’s not just one thing—a quick fix in the portal or coaches or development—it’s a culmination of all of it hitting around the same times.
Most opinions on this board seem to be pointing to only one thing as the issue.

Yes, it's a hodgepodge of problems since LSU...but let's look on the bright side...this year is the first time in Clemson history that we can say our facilities and amenities are 99.99% complete (minus stadium refreshment upgrades)...
And...we might soon be getting more $$$$$$
I'm all in!

It’s true, just my thoughts. Just seems like the past three years have more attributed to multiple issues than just a single one, which I feel like hasn’t even discussed much.

One things for sure, Coach Scott is greatly miss in the recruiting alone. He was amazing at bringing that talent here. Especially prior to becoming the recruiting coordinator or whatever his title was over recruiting these kids. Those ties he had in Florida spread all over with the amount of high caliper WR's that came through and then went into the NFL & it wasn't just WR's. We desperately miss that (very real) factor that these high-school kids all payed attention to. WRU was legit!!!

Seems the biggest WR threat we’ve lost is the tall, go getter that can handle 50/50 balls, especially near the endzone.
I saw one stat earlier that said we didn’t throw to the endzone in the red zone and I think some of that is just lacking the size to throw 50/50 balls.

Disagree with the DC comment

Why are we wasting years while our DC learns on the job when we could just pay one with experience and be better now. We wasted '22 with Streeter and Goodwin last year. Let Goodwin learn somewhere else and then maybe we could hire him. Best is the standard.
