Iowa State makes a huge difference? I don't. Generally, teams that have that good a running attack have GREAT offensive line play, which will still be there no matter who totes the rock.
Now, there ARE exceptions to that rule. Take ETN away from us in 2018 or 2019, and it would have hurt us, a BUNCH. Butt, even the pundits said that ETN was great on his own ability, not because he had an elite line blocking for him.

Here is my thought, granted I am just a random guy. Did this guy sit out to save his self or was he worried that he may not be as good as the Clemson Defensive line?

if I played running back, I would be more likely to sit out than any other position, even QB. Running backs get punished on EVERY play, be it getting tackled if carrying the ball, or having to deliver a block on someone almost guaranteed to be much bigger than they are, if NOT carrying the ball.

100%. I played tailback in HS and could barely walk the next day after a 20-30 carry game. Had a torn up knee and ankle in one season. I can’t even imagine what these elite college backs must endure. You could watch Ship and just see what a grind it was on him this year.
