But the media loves to hold Clemson to the National title or bust standard more than any other school.
I watch a lot of videos and read a lot of articles the media loves to pick on Clemson's short comings, especially in regards to recruiting and use of transfer portal more than any other school.
You'll never hear Josh Pate or anyone else in the media, say the same things about other schools.

Pate tries to appease his largest audience which he thought Clemson was not a part of in his mind. He just lost #6.

Our recruitment has declined with the advent of NIL money. 5 Stars often cost $Millions these days. On the other hand Georgia, Ohio State and Michigan have the best teams money can buy, Texas A&M, Texas and others are close behind. They buy top 5 classes annually and show some success. They don’t win championships annually!
Dabo is doing a good job, but it takes great coaches, talented players, and some good fortune (luck) to win a Championship! Stay the course, and success will follow……. A group of special players will make a run, we just have to keep the faith in our Tigers!
Go Tigers, Beat LSU!

Jealousy over the run we went on and all the times he was wrong about Clemson when we were clearly one of the top two teams.
Beating Alabama when they were at their best hurts the SEC narrative.
Clemson just needs to grow where their planted, the Dabo effect will help because he’s a very good coach and problem solver but the best talent starting helps but they don’t always pan out to be great.
We could have two Renfrow’s and several Grady Jarrett’s up and coming. A great QB can cover a multitude of problems.

It's not like we went from top 3-4 team to a team that was still top 10, but still recruited really well and was super competitive and had a few bad breaks.
We have seen our team go from elite to outside the top 10, with a decline in the quality of our recruiting classes as well. It's been a pretty big drop off over the past 4 years or so.
I do think we are positioned well to have a very good team in 2025, provided that we stay healthy on offense and Allen can get us some improvement on defense.

Yeah, I got to lol too. You make a good point as does he. I'm not sceered to admit that I like his stuff. Especially during football season.
I'll tell everyone that jumped on the Dabo train and didn't suffer through the lean years. I like the attention. Was 2 short decades ago, we'd get the same attention as a ga tech... nada. I don't care to revisit those days.
And to the others who claim to listen to national broadcasts and claim no other teams get trashed. Baloney. Plenty trashed and roasted Day for not winning the big one. It won't be long they'll say the same about Sarkisian if he doesn't.
Lastly, we could be like the real usc or the sc ones and hear crickets. I love the exposure.

People will bash your comment just because it's you. It does not mean anything. We would all have to be blind to not see what Pate and everyone else outside of Clemson has seen. Pate is even handed, IMO, and he sees what he sees. It's not being down on our team to just express concerns. I have seen plenty of that on Tnet for the last 3 years. I do think that there may have been a bit of resting on laurels as far as our recruiting staff went. Perhaps some naive thinking that once a player said he was coming that we had him in the bag. I think they got caught with their pants down and their head between their knees when it came to recruits getting sniped by other programs this last year.
That said, they have been recruiting their butts off this year and I think Dabo and company have woken up to the reality that a recruit is not ours until they step on the field. My hopeful prediction is that recruiting will spike through the roof on this next cycle and all these folks will relax.
It's not all doom and gloom to discuss areas for improvment. Why be a fan if you live with blinders on? Take this example. I have been a Celtics fan all my life. After the massive success of the Lard Bird years he retired and then we drafted Len Bias as the next great player for the franchise. When he killed himself via an overdose it had a long term negative effects on everything about the Celtics for 22 years. It just takes one bad decision on a key player or coach and guys start bailing because it impacts their visions of gandeur.

Our own QB said championship or bust, albeit I don't think that's unique to us.
What is unique is that this keeps happening & in spite of being a relatively small fanbase by comparison, our response & engagement on a national level is both remarkable & so often inescapably vitriolic to create some of the most engagement in the sport outright; we haven't seen a response video like this for anyone else, for example, let alone Tyle from Spartanburg being a national story for weeks & nobody else really having anything like that, know what I mean?
It's just kinda who we are now is all, & I think it makes some people out there like Finebaum create opportunities for engagement implicitly because they know we will take all the bait & create engagement like no other program out there & on a legitimately national scale.

Tigercc, I don't know why he let's them, or whoever does the short takes even post those stupid things.
Listen to the whole tape (where Clemson is listed as elite) on why he made this statement. Do the homework for context. It was an entire what if scenario. Plus he knows LSU has a fanbase like us who will give him clicks. Hopefully people realize this is a business for them.
If it's going to angst you so much, then just listen to only Clemson people.

You're making a big assumption on my supposed angst. You're also assuming I didn't listen to the whole tape.
Again, like many others, it's always doom and gloom for Clemson. I can name off 8 things that have been major talking points against Clemson in just the last 6 years.
Don't worry about my homework, my "angst" or who I listen to. As a fan posting on a fan board, I'm more than happy to point out double standards on coverage of teams, especially when it compares to Clemson & teams from the SEC.
There are plenty of people on here that agree me with as well.

If we beat LSU, not much will be said other than the first necessary takes. It doesn’t fit the narrative. It’ll be quickly dismissed with “oh, it was the first game, anything can happen” or “LSU wasn’t up for the game”.
If we lose, it’ll get talked about freely all-season.

IMO he is 100% right, and I do hope that Dabo has read or heard about the report just to let him know what people are saying and hopefully Dabo will see that it's happened bc of his mistake with hiring within without doing a national search and getting us better coaching than what was within especially after one of his famous slogans the best is the standard. The whole truth is that he failed by not following what come from his own mouth, The Best Is The STANDARD!!!
If the best is his standard, I hope that from here on to his last day of coaching Clemson FB, that he will never again forget what his standard is, and he will hire the best coaches that he can bring to Clemson. If he does that, as fans we'll never again have to worry the way that a lot of us have about Dabo's subpar coaching hires that has hurt our recruiting. Subpar inexperience coaching hires armed the coaches that we recruit against IMHO...

I find it interesting that Clemson is held to these standards but the same people will vehemently argue Clemson is not a blue blood while arguing an under achieving team like Penn St is still currently a blue blood.
One recruiting class will not tank Clemson(the past 4 seasons Clemson has still been a top 20 recruiting class), now if the 2026 class is also small and light in talent at key areas that could be a massive issue. The only area i have serious concerns at is QB, none of the guys will be ready or good enough to unseat a junior Vizzina. Hopefully Vizzina makes a monumental leap.

FACTS!!
Never want to give credit, but when it comes time to knock a team down a peg or predict doom and gloom, Clemson is one of the first the national media wants to bring up for a myriad of reason over the years.

No...he's wrong. It's not the quality of the POTENTIAL of the athletes. It's the actual PERFORMANCE of the athletes. The defensive coaching had a lot to do with that. They were undisciplined and disorganized. They did not play smart. That will change with the new DC. Some of the best athletes woefully underperformed. Some depth concerns but with good coaching, those concerns should be alleviated. He's expecting some miraculous downgrade of athletes recruited. That's not the case.

Counterpoint: we care in Clemson nation & that's why we're one of the most-engaged groups with him outright (6th is actually sincerely impressive when you think about it).
I don't think it's unique to him, though, & perhaps that's why he was compelled to make this kind of a response video, which I've never seen from any other fanbase, either.

Pate is totally accurate in his assessment after 2025. Clemson will have a major drop-off in 2026 if they do not aquire some great portal additions. A lot of talent will be lost with very little depth to replace the departures.

1. Congrats to Tigerland having that much influence: it just validates that our team travels well because of a passionate fan base (notwithstanding the internal coots and divisionists…judge).
2. It’s disappointing (I think the judge made this point along the way of a tiger bb chat line) that tigers can be so easily divided….im a huge supporter of Dabo and his philosophy, I’m thrilled when every Tiger team does well…and it’s been awhile for the mens team but glad they’re still rolling some after last years big finish! Good luck to them continuing the success!
3. While I don’t listen to the majority of talking heads and sports as a previous commenter said I think mostly most sports reporters/commenters/bloggers…..and on and on down…sports is just an excuse to proclaim anything just because there’s no way to disprove it except more arguments…and while my momma said I should be a lawyer because I do…just ain’t true anymore. Glad you guys like that.
4. I think Clemson has long proven we, like most other teams, mostly over or underachieve notwithstanding the statistics that statistics are just that…history…not prophecy. Dabo/Clemson will always have an overachiever spirit…even if we occasionally don’t live up to hype/false expectations. The truth most coaches and successful people know is a persons /teams mental attitude does more to shape your future than anything else///see Princeton mbb several years back.
This hurts my thumb…I’m out
Go Tigers!!

Dabo saw the fall from where he sits also, and by that could be the reason why he has allowed his coordinator dip into the transfer portal, and they will need to do more of if we're going to remain the top team in the ACC and compete out of conference as a top level team...

and calling out several of the responses that were far more emotional than those rooted in truly calling out his errors, and laziness.
If he had bothered to do his homework he would have found that our current running 5-class average of 12.8 that he shared in his graphic to prove his point of our worrisome slide is actually better than our 2016 national championship team's 14.2 and just a shade worse than 2018's 11.8, yet we're somehow no where close any more. The better rated classes of 2019-2022 that he's trying to pump as our highwater mark in terms of championship pedigree produced worse results. Heck, our average rating per recruit in 2025, our current class, is higher than every single one of the 5 years leading up to 2016.
Like the average fan, he seems spooked by a simple ranking number that he's either too lazy to put into its proper perspective, or just doesn't care to acknowledge because a controversial hot take is better for ratings than sharing a ho hum reality.
