Considering it’s the off-season, I thing the better question is who is the fastest poster on TigerNet.
I’m betting the average 40 time on this board is somewhere around 6.3 seconds, but there is bound to be at least a couple legit burners.

I could probably get a 5.2 if I tried. Ran a 4.6 in high school. Miss running and weight training sometimes.

high school who could smoke me in the 100 yard dash. I only know this because Coach Artie Knight used to make EVERYONE run track events for PE in the spring at Holly Hill High School. (Not at the same time, of course.)

All 4.5`s are not legit...track shoes, Lazer, artificial surface, fresh, shorts tank tops etc...how bout last day of two a days after practice in old cotton practice uniforms dirty and sweaty...backs in medium height practice leather shoes and linemen in high top leather, no shoulder pads but everything else including helments...there a 4,5 is really a 4.5! Lazer timer eliminates reaction time to starter signal and with a rocking step is usually good for .2 to .3...that's how we wind up seeing posted 4.29 40`s!..want to test it check out 30 yd times (baseball) and look at sub 3.9`s!

We should race sometimes. While running 40s at HS football practice, I was once told if I could slow down just a little, they could time me with a calendar. I decided to retire (quit) soon after.

I would point to Justin Ross who ran a ~ 4.7 at pro day yet he looked pretty good at stretching the field against ND and Bama. Mike Williams is another guy who would not win a track meet but was pretty good at stretching the field. While its nice to have a Jacoby Ford type player things like running great routes and offensive styles which make the DBs bite on the wrong thing also play a big part as football is much more than raw speed.

Ross and Williams didn't need to be burners, they just won the majority of their 1 on 1 50/50 balls. Especially Mike Williams, he was the king of high pointing the ball and Moss'n every DB that tried.

I’m guessing Antonio Williams or Troy Stellato are the fastest. I hope to see things click for Troy next year, if he’s healthy I could see Riley using those two to create some matchup issues in the slot.

Correct. Stellato had a 4.39 in high school. Laser 4.4s. The other suggestions are high 4.4s or low 4.5s. He's our only true burner, if he still has it after the injuries.

I'm honestly going to guess Tyler Brown is the fastest. Guessing he's a legit 4.4 to 4.5 guy coming in.
On the team currently I'd guess Nate Wiggins or maybe Cole Turner they look like 4.5 to 4.6 guys.
4.4 speed is not as common as the internet football fans want to believe.
I'm guessing one of the more athletic guys over the past 2 years Trent Simpson will run in the 4.6 to 4.7 range. I haven't seen anyone come in to Clemson and leave significantly faster or more explosive.

Well who is it you think is the fastest? I didn't see anyone that was crazy fast like Simmons or Etienne last year. I'm not so sure there is a legit low 4.4 guy on the roster right now, don't mean the teams slow. I see in this thread Stellato was clocked with a high 4.3 on laser, if that's the case nd he comes back 100% he's the fastest guy and that's flat out flying.

You make a very good point about guys "becoming fast and explosive" while at Clemson. That was the norm a few years ago. Tons of players who became bigger, stronger, faster and more explosive while here. Not so much anymore. I wonder why? Seems the norm anymore is guys were as good or better when they arrived as when they left.

Probably one of the DB's, I guess Stellato's a possibility if he hasn't lost a step and those hs times were really laser verified. Was he track guy? Don't recall, believe he had an offer from OSU
