My favorite is definitely Gus Johnson. His reactions to big plays are awesome.

I think of the old NCAA football video game. I’m an old guy, but not too old to have enjoyed that classic.

A lot of good names listed above.
I like Wes Durham too, but couldn't listen to his dad, Woody Durham ( unc play by play guy for years).
I think the best call the game, good and bad for both sides. Yet don't yap about what they had to eat, etc, etc just to fill a void. Just cover the game we are watching.

Its been so long since I could hear them clearly, I would say Jim Phillips and Mr Keith "WHoa Nelly" Jackson. I liked Brent "Check out the Hot Babes in the Stands" Mussberger too
I watch with the sound off now and don't even try to listen to the radio.

Like so many of you, I now watch most College games with the sound OFF. Especially if Beth Mowins is on. My all time fav was Keith Jackson and I always enjoyed Mike Tirico when he did games. Old Vern was hard to beat, as well. Most of today's crowd are just average, at best.

1. Last generation: #1 Keith Jackson, #2 Jim Phillips/Larry Munson. Not a Bob Fulton fan (coot) but thought it was classy when he came to Clemson to call a Clemson series in memory of his friend Jim Phillips. Maybe Striperfan can let us know if they were really friends.
2. Current generation: probably Herbstreet and RGIII. I remember RG111 calling a Clemson game a couple of years ago when Mafah made a really tough run. RGIII’s statement……….he’s a baaaad Mafah. Best I could do on the current crop. Not really impressed with any of them.

Agree pretty much. Phillips and Fulton far better than anything currently available. But objectively would put Larry Munson above them both—

The OP asked about PxP guys not color analysts. I like McDonough, Tirico and Nessler just fine. Gus doesn’t bother me too much but not every 3-yard gain deserves the high pitched scream treatment. Durham is right there with the second tier guys. Fowler is not a play by play guy and really should never have been promoted to that. Tessitore is horrendous and can ruin a game along with Mowins. And our very own radio guy is total trash. He was dropping the 3-name Swinney (William Christopher Swinney) at the end of the Duke game while trying to make Dabo look like he was going to go all hard on the team the next practice but had no explanation for the lack of preparation on Dabo’s part. He’s a shill but a really bad one that can’t paint a picture for a radio audience.

Don makes my ears bleed. I refuse to listen to him. The couple of times that I have had to listen to him, he has made the game so hard to listen to. Half the time he gets our own players name wrong. He kept calling Drew Swinney Will Swinney last year. Get it together. Also um he um says um after every um word. That drives me insane. And the "All God's Children say Go Tiger" so cringe.

While listening on the radio to a team's call, not a network, I love hearing a homer. Todd is nothing if not a gamecock homer.
I miss Jim Phillips every time I turn on one of our games.
While I hated their teams I miss Woody Durham and Larry Munson. Gary Hahn is a good listen, even though it's NC State. Eric Montross is very good at the job for UNC basketball, hopefully he can continue after his cancer announcement.
For a network guy I think Sean McDonough is the best out there right now.

Lamecocks, Mr. Bob Fulton, who I deeply respected, I used to love old Keith Jackson on the national weekly ABC Game of the Week. I sure do miss "Oh, NELLIE!"
Once you got over the fact that nobody was ever going to measure up to Jim Phillips at Clemson, I actually kind of liked Pete Yannity doing our games. It was a different style, but I believe it would have grown on us if he had been kept on.
