I read a lot of the books

and by read I mean listened to them in the car.
Watched the first three episodes and just like Game of Thrones, Man in the High Castle, and Harry Potter, none of the cast matches my imagined looks, voice, etc so I can't seem to enjoy the theatrical versions.
The books kept getting longer and longer so I gave up about the time the daughter got more involved.

than the movies or shows that come from the books.
Essentially, its because the reader forms more of a connection to the characters because they have to imagine how the scenes/settings are, what the characters look and act like etc. ie, more is left up to the reader so it creates a relationship to the reader.
The movie or show doesn't do that, and everything is presented for you, and you see it through someone else's view point.
That kind of made sense, and it also told me that maybe sometimes a movie or show could be better than the book its based on.
